No one should be leaving their house right now unless they really have to or are still working (thank you doctors, nurses, janitors, and others fighting on the front line of this). Thus, food delivery is the safest and easiest way to get what you need. Still, not everyone knows the main applications you can get delivery through, especially those who have never used them before. But I promise it’s so easy to get items delivered and is so worth it. Especially right now, it’s the right time to start using these types of apps. So, here are 5 apps to check out for your next dinner or to get your groceries left right at your door.
DoorDash is a good app to mention because it’s in so many areas, from big cities to smaller towns. For example, it started in San Francisco, but I used DoorDash for delivery in Ithaca, New York all the time. I will say that while the food comes way faster than some other apps, I have noticed that the added fees seem a bit higher than other apps. However, Doordash often has promo codes and deals online that make up for those fees in my opinion. So, if you’re in need of food, its definitley worth it. And they are one of the few apps in my area at least that have Mcdonalds, Wendy’s, and other places you might want for your fast food craving or hangover food.
I have to say–this is by far my favorite food delivery option. Instacart has shoppers and depending on where you live, the app has multiple stores you can shop from. Such as, CVS, Shaws, Wegmans, BJ’s and some areas have your local markets on Instacart. I love being able to add my groceries and toiletrees directly to the cart and then having it at my door in two hours, without leaving my couch (which is so important right now). I should point out however, that the wait times for Instacart are definitely longer right now and you may want to even order a day before, as shoppers are now limited due to Coronavirus. Still, that doesn’t make it not worth doing, it just means you have to plan and be organized with your shopping needs!
Uber Eats is similar to DoorDash in that it usually delivers food from restaurants. However, during the coronavirus pandemic, Uber Eats has started doing some grocery shopping as well and is an app that is in most areas! I personally don’t live in an area where this app is available, but a lot of my friends do and they love using it and are using it during this crazy time a lot. Check this out for all your needs from food to personal care to liquor in some areas. I also find it very impressive that a company who drives people around thought of the idea to drop food off too. Very smart and very jealous I am not the one who thought of that idea.
This app isn’t for food but it’s another quarantining essential in my opinion. Drizly is an alcohol delivery service that delivers same-day, much like Instacart but for adult beverages. All you have to do is show your ID when the person comes to the door with your drinks. The minimum is also only $20 which is great because alcohol is expensive as it is. Drizly is mostly available only in somewhat larger cities, but its definitely worth a look, because there’s no point in pretending you aren’t drinking wine every night while you’re stuck at home. Check out your local stores to see if they’re delivering alcohol too as many are around the country and could use your support.
Postmates is kind of the ultimate food delivery app in my opinion. I feel like Postmates is the one you always hear celebrities talking about and the one in movies. Not sure why, but feels true. Anyway, you can order food, groceries, or alcohol, basically anything you could ever need or want for your quarantine days and weeks. Therefore, it’s kind of an ideal time to download this app if you haven’t already (seriously, do it!). Postmates is available in most major cities around the United States. So, if you live in a city this app is ideal for you. Whether for take out or your whole shopping list!
Everyone needs to stay at home right now but we still have to eat. Another thing to remember is that you can also check a box to have your food delivered with “no contact,” where the driver will just leave it at your door to avoid any chance of germs being spread person to person. And, with most apps you can follow along where the driver is on the map, so you’ll know when your food or groceries have arrived. Remember, many drivers are wearing gloves and masks as well when they deliver and still risking themselves and their health to give us the food we want and need. So, don’t forget to tip if you are able to do so!
Also, a lot of local markets and restaurants are offering take-out and grocery delivery. So check out your local markets and support your local businesses by ordering from them too. I know the tiny public market in my town is delivering groceries and struggling during this time, so it’s important to support your hometown! The local liquor stores are delivering too. A lot of pet stores are even offering delivery or curb-side pick up for your animal’s food because we can’t forget them either. I hope these ideas motivate you to stay home and to help stop the spread. And remember, order early, because many apps are running late and low on drivers!
