Florida State University Game Day Outfits

Fall semester means its tailgate season at Florida State University. It’s a serious time filled with many social events that you need to have plenty of killer game day outfits for. However, the kickoff to football season in Florida is still very, very hot. But don’t worry this gives you the perfect opportunity to work on your tailgate tan lines and bust out your sweaters and jeans later on in the semester. These are your must have Florida State game day outfits.

1. The Tube Top

The tube top is a current favorite for many brands right now and it’s an absolute must have for FSU fans. It provides coverage without completely smothering you in fabric. The Doak can feel like a sauna and this allows you to stay cool without having to worry about sweat marks. They’re also perfect for tailgating at Heritage Grove before the game. That “short” walk to the stadium from the frats can feel excruciating, but these are perfect for beating the heat and make a great casual game day outfit.

You can find one pretty much anywhere right now, but they’re also extremely easy to make if you have an old top that you want to revamp. The best part is if the game is at noon you can pair it with a pair of shorts or a fitted skirt and they look great, but if the game is a little bit later or its a slightly cool game they also pair perfectly with jeans. Worried that your sorority button won’t fit on it? Just add it the waist band of your shorts or the top of your skirt. Tally Customs on Etsy has some adorable FSU themed tube tops and shirts that you should definelty check out before game day.

2. The Jersey Top

Need a more casual and maybe parent-friendly option? The oversized jersey look is perfect for you. It’s comfortable, casual, and still really cute. They look great with high-top shoes or higher rise socks, and a pair of short shorts. I would stick to wearing these when it gets slightly cooler outside because the material is quite thick.  Have an old one? Try cropping it. The number on the back should be high enough that cropping it won’t ruin the design.

3. Overalls

Overalls are perfect for creating a casual but cute vibe on game days. Because there is such a variety on overalls you can pretty much get away with anything, as long as one side stays un-clipped. Black full length jean overalls are super cute with a white FSU crop under it. Jean overalls, of any kind, pretty much go with any FSU shirt known to man–which makes your job that much easier whenever you have to get ready. If you want to dress up a little bit more, skirt overalls are your go to. They look more dressed than jeans or shorts, but still casual enough to wear to a tailgate.

4. The Halter Top

Halter tops are a great option for game days. They’re cute and because they have tie backs they help you stay cool in the unbearable heat. If you want to buy one they’re super easy to find and they go with any bottoms. If you have some older FSU shirts that you need to re-vamp before you wear them again, making your own game day halter tops is super easy. There are a million tutorials on Pinterest  and Youtube that will walk you through the process. The best part? The tie backs make them more of a one-size-fits-all which means you can swap them with your friends for more outfit combos!

5. The V-Neck Cut Out Top

These were the absolute hit last season, but that doesn’t mean you can’t bring them back for this season. They’re easy to make out of your old oversized shirts, and they can add an edge to your game day outfit. If you already have a shirt like this and you’re tired of wearing it try adding a black lace up component to it. These shirts pair nicely with ripped up jeans or if they’re really oversized try pairing them with a pair of Doc Martin’s.

6. The Standard Crop Top

Any of the above tops can be turned into a cute crop top to your liking. If you want to go for the really short and cropped look try putting a cute brallete under it to be shown off. Freepeople has great options for cute bralletes to wear, but if you want to go for a more casual look try going for a Calvin Klein peak-a-boo look. Longer crop tops are also a cute and causal option for game days. They look with both jeans and shorts. Definitely make sure to check out Copper Closet in Governor’s Square Mall or online for super cute crop tops! They also have other options like State themed body suits and tube tops.

7. The Acid Wash Shirt

The acid wash look is super cute and put a twist on the basic t-shirt look. The black acid wash look is a must have and pairs perfectly with pretty much any kind of bottoms. They’re easy to make on your own and each one is unique. You can even try tye dying them with bleach for an even more interesting look. Retrothredsbymady on Instagram/Etsy is a great place to find homemade and cheaper acid wash (and other super cute trends) shirts! She also runs a pop up shops every now and then. Make sure you check her out before you head out for a game day party.

8. Overly Ripped Jeans

These are an absolute must have for tailgate season. The more ripped the better. Black and a very light blue jeans are a go to, because they go with everything. If you want to re-wear them for multiple games try adding a pair of large diamond fishnets under them. I would recommend getting a few pairs in different colors just to make sure that your look isn’t stagnant.

9. The Solid Color Shirt

Don’t have any actual FSU shirts yet? No problem, any solid black, white, burgundy, or semi-gold looking shirt will do the trick. Solid colors rompers can even dress up your game day. Black is also a super common color for FSU shirts so you’ll fit right in. It can sometimes be hard to find game day outfits for the colder games so wearing these four colors will totally work.

10. The Cheer Skirt

These are absolutely perfect for game days. They’re supper comfortable and not too hot to wear. They pair really well with knee high socks, high top converse, and a tube top. They capture FSU colors and spirit all in one.
