10 Flattering Haircuts That You Can Try At Home

As most of us have been stuck inside these past few weeks and will continue to be until COVID-19 passes, it’s a natural feeling to want to change your look. Since most hair salons are closed at the moment (even if yours is open, opt to stay inside for the time being), here are 10 easy and flattering haircuts that you can try at home.

1. The Lob

A lob, which is basically just a longer version of a bob, is one of those timeless, flattering haircuts that will never go out of style. Plus, if your hair is long, this is a great haircut to try that will make you feel fresh and light. I often opt for a lob when I feel like I need a big change but I don’t want to commit to coloring my hair or cutting it extremely short. This haircut could be tricky to try on your own, so make sure you have someone help you and look for some tutorials on YouTube.

2. Two Tone

Dua Lipa is famous for her signature two-toned hair, and luckily, this look is easy to get at home. Simply separate your hair into two sections (top and bottom), and dye the top half blonde and the bottom half dark brown or black. Obviously, dying your own hair and ending up with the desired result is easier said than done, but once again, there’s a YouTube tutorial for everything. You can even get creative with the colors you choose, and as shown by the picture below, the style only gets more fashionable as your roots begin to grow out.

3. Bangs

In theory, bangs are always cute, but at this point, I’ve seen one to many videos of people messing up by cutting them way too short (I myself am guilty as charged). The moral of the story is to cut them long at first (keep them right underneath your nose) and then touch them up slowly piece by piece. Bangs look cute with all hair types and all hair lengths, and it only takes a few weeks for them to grow out which is why this is the time to try!

4. Curtain Bangs

If you want bangs but you’re not totally ready to commit to them, try opting for curtain bangs instead. This is one of those flattering hairstyles that will make you look like you just came back from sipping wine on a balcony in Paris, which is everyone’s dream right now what with this quarantine. The method for cutting curtain bangs is fairly similar to the way regular bangs are cut, but it is important to make sure that the bangs blend in completely with the rest of your hair (as seen below). Again, YouTube will be your saving grace when it comes to cutting your own hair.

5. Pixie Cut

No, it may not be 2012/2013 when celebrities like Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Watson were abandoning their luscious locks for a pixie cut, but this haircut is still extremely popular in 2020. It is a common misconception that pixie cuts are only for masculine women; actresses such as Scarlett Johansson and Anne Hathaway have sported one of these flattering haircuts before, so there’s no reason why you can’t, too!

6. Dying the Front

Over the past few weeks, this trend has been taking the internet by storm. If your looking to dye your hair but you don’t want to dye your whole head, this is the look for you. I’ve seen some people with dark hair simply bleach the front two pieces and keep them blonde, while others, such as the model below, are opting for a more colorful approach. The style tends to look best on those with have long, dark, straight hair (like in the image below).

7. Choppy Mullet

In the words of the great Billy Ray Cyrus, “I want my mullet back!” This choppy mullet haircut has become extremely popular lately for all genders, especially for those individuals who identify most with the indie rock star aesthetic. This haircut is almost impossible to mess up if you’re cutting your own hair at home because of the nature of the cut; it’s supposed to look messy!

8. Pink Hair

At this point, most of us have been stuck in quarantine for over a month, and even though the curve is slowly flattening, there isn’t a clear end in sight. Take advantage of this time at home and screw it–dye your hair pink! Celebrities including Kim and Khloe Kardashian, Demi Lovato, and Elle Fanning (pictured below) have gone light-pink in the past, and they’ve all made it look super fabulous. Singer Dua Lipa recently dyed her hair pink out of quarantine boredom! If you have lighter hair, dying your own hair pink or any other color at home will be easy, but if you have dark hair, it’s not impossible; you’ll just need to bleach your hair first!

9. Keep it Long

Although it might be tempting to try something new and unique with your hair, keeping it long or growing it out is a good option, too. The longer your hair is, the more you’ll look like a mermaid at the beach or by the pool when summer finally roles around and when this quarantine is finally over! Every time I cut my hair short, I feel a little bit of regret and I find myself missing my long hair, so this is the style I’ll be trying personally!

10. Shaved

If you’re really looking for a big change and you’re not afraid of a super bold look, shaving your head completely might be the move for you! A lot of famous internet personalities, including famous TikTok comedian Emmy Hartman (pictured below), have been shaving their heads during quarantine. You could be next! This hairstyle is ideal for someone who already has pretty short hair so that there isn’t a drastic transformation, but really it’s for anyone who’s brave enough.
