Favorite Fashion Shows Of 2021

With 2021 coming to a close so are this years fashion shows. Plenty amazing shows took place, but which ones are actually worth losing into and buying from? Because of the luxury prices deciding can be difficult which is why we’re going to make it slightly easier for you. Without further or due, for buying purposes or just curiosity, here are our favorite fashion shows of 2021.

1. Palomo Spain

Alejandro Gómez Palomo is a Spanish fashion designer and creator of the menswear brand Palomo Spain. Born in Córdoba, south of Spain, Palomo graduated from London College of Fashion in 2015 and founded Palomo Spain the same year, as a continuation of his graduate project. Palomo’s Autumn/ Winter 2017 collection was shown at New York Fashion Week and was given the title of most exciting show by W Magazine. This year’s show, unlike the others, has taken a more unique fruitful path rather than last year’s almost native designs. This collection brings about the topic of feminine dressing for men, as the small collection consists of elegant bridesmaid dresses, a couple chic suburban inspired suits, oversized puffed trousers, and a classic pair of 80’s style leather pants along with a matching oversized jacket.

2. Zimmermann

Nicky and Simone Zimmermann are Australian sisters who created the unique label Zimmermann back in 1991. Since then, Zimmermann has become a common name as this fashion and lifestyle brand is commonly known for its luxurious resort wear. Nicky Zimmerman attended an acclaimed design school at East Sydney in 1990, and upon graduation began making clothes in her parent’s garage. Soon after, Nicky opened a boutique shop in Darlinghurst with her sister Simone, finally launching Zimmermann. This season Zimmermann had a very successful show as it didn’t just take a different approach to the apparel, but also the models. In this show models had the option of smiling, bringing out the authenticity of the garment. The 2021 show featured an abundant amount of options and a lovely color theme of red, pink, yellow, emerald, blue, and multi color gowns. The unique silhouettes and colors are inspired by Australian music in the 70’s and 80’s , with cues taken from popular  bands at the time Blondie and ABBA.

3. Olivier Theyskens

Olivier Theyskens is a Belgian fashion designer who has worked with major design houses such as Rochas, Nina Ricci and Theory. Theyskens was born to a chemical engineer and a former French homemaker. Theyskens attended École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Visuels de la Cambre in October 1994 to study fashion design and dropped out in 1997 to start his own label. Theyskens then presented his first full collection in Paris in 1998. The collection was a deconstruction of eighteenth century style that reworked traditional French fabrics. His spring 1999 collection was featured on Vogue’s list of “25 Most Unforgettable Runway Shows of the ‘90s.” This year we received a darker gothic line that was released right in time for October orders. The collection is a more modern alternative look to singer Mylène Farmer’s 80’s wardrobe, who Olivier has a fixation with. This collection was described as a modern day romantic tragedy, with slight references to past collections.

4. Valentin Yudashkin

Valentin Yudashkin was born on October 14th 1963 in Moscow and is Russia’s most famous fashion designer, the only Russian designer at the time to be honored with membership in the Syndicate of High Fashion in Paris. After graduating from high school, Yudashikin enrolled in the Moscow Industrial College and created his first collection during the times of Perestroika. Similar to the time of the Great Depression, this year’s show takes a prestigious, conservative, 80’s and 90’s dark chic approach with many archived references. The entire collection is black and white with tons of feminine but also masculine pieces like blazers and a variety of suit and tie inspired outfits with a feminine touch. Critics say the collection is a modern day reminder of how the beloved actress Audrey Hepburn dressed in the film Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

5. Comme des Garçons

Rei Kawakubo is a Japanese fashion designer based in Tokyo and Paris. Kawakubo was born on October 11th 1942 in Tokyo and studied fine arts and literature at Keio University, earning a degree in the history of aesthetics. After she worked as a freelance stylist in 1967, two years later she began to design and make her own label called Comme des Garçons. Which means “like the boys”. This years ready to wear shoe was anything but, in this collection Rei went over the top with a serene Victorian feel. In this collection, the true meaning of modern day monochrome really took a turn for the best as all outfits are flushed with black and white. Despite the basic colors that are actually meant for something which we’ll get into later, the collection showed immaculate shapes and definitions with a true Victorian mindset. The reason for the coloring choices is explained as stripping away signs and symbols for a more minimalistic approach, which was executed perfectly.

Although her first collection appeared in Vogue, her business really took off with a pattern that looked similar to a scarf wrapped around the wearer’s neck. Not long after her designs got darker because of the war France declared on Germany in 1938 leading to the shut down in 1954. It wasn’t until 2013 Schiaparelli was relaunched in 2013 by new owner, billionaire Diego della Valle. This year’s collection was jam packed with detailed couture!
