Color is the best tool to work with when creating an iconic red carpet look. However, only a few celebs have succeeded in owning one of the R.O.Y.G.B.I.V. ‘s. Here are the top most memorable celebrity color looks from the rainbow.
Red is such a bold, powerful color and who can match that energy more than Rihanna? The accomplished singer/actress wore this astonishing bright red Giambittista Valli couture dress. The ball gown features an especially low cut off-the-shoulder neckline which scandalously held her cleavage in just the right way. A flowing train also followed behind her as she made her rounds at the event.
Rihanna paired the dress with ruby and gold jewelry and a matching Jimmy Choo clutch. She sported red lipstick as well as slicking back her long, beach waved hair. The artist wore this look to the European premiere of Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets in which she played the alien shapeshifter known as “Bubbles.” R is for Red and for Rihanna.
One of the most recognized celebrity color looks of all time goes to singer/rapper, Lil Nas X. The seemingly overnight sensation wore a vivacious hot pink cowboy outfit to the 2020 Grammy Awards Show. He was dressed by Versace who incorporated some of their signature marks into the outfit. The famed Versace gold medusa studs were featured on Lil Nas X’s pink cowboy hat as well as his custom cropped jacket.
The “Old Town Road” performer’s look also included a pink mesh undershirt with a matching pink harness serving a dominatrix aura as well as Versace print silk scarves on each wrist. For shoes, he had gold studded cowboy boots which, you guessed it, were pink too. Lil Nas X won 2 grammies that night although he should have gotten another award for his unforgettable outfit.
Throwing it back a few decades, Marylin Monroe takes the prize of the most iconic orange look. In her 1953 movie, Gentleman Prefer Blondes, she certainly proves that with a beaded bright orange formal dress. Monroe’s long time costume designer, William Travilla, put her in this staple piece along with many others throughout her career.
This pumpkin orange color was something out of the box for Marilyn but that did not stop her from pulling it off so delicately. The chiffon ruched dress was detailed with shiny rhinestones along the bust line and down the front center of the dress which, believe it or not, was where the zipper was. The look was topped off with a matching stole which draped behind her. This dress is a prime example that Marilyn Monroe can make anything work.
Known for her role in the hit Netflix show, Orange Is the New Black, Danielle Brooks embodied the definition of confidence in a yellow gown. The canary yellow color against her beautiful dark skin made for an absolute sensation. In this entry in our celebrity color looks list, she wore this bright, flowing fit when debuting her modeling career in the 2016 Christian Siriano x Lane Bryant fashion show.
Her makeup artist, Regan Rabanal, did an amazing job executing this look to an even further level of appeal. He put a vivid fuchsia lip on Brooks while also highlighting her stunning facial structure with pink blushes. Danielle was absolutely radiating in this graceful yellow get up as she beautifully embraced her curves.
Seemingly everyone’s celebrity crush, Jack Harlow, sported a sophisticated green leather suit look. Attending the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards, Harlow paired his Bottega Veneta jacket and pants with a black turtle neck and black boots with green soles. It was a seemingly simple look while still offering enough head turning elements. The color in itself was bold but the leather material pulls it all together.
With this outfit, he appeared on stage with another honorable mention on this list, Lil Nas X, as they performed their song, “Industry Baby.” The duo make quite the team with their talent and fashion debuts. Apparently the color green at the VMA’s in 2021 was a popular decision as rapper, G-Eazy, wore a vibrant, bright green outfit. However, Jack Harlow wins our hearts and our favor for this particularly green event when it comes to celebrity color looks.
Lady Gaga is already a well known fashion icon. In fact, Gaga could have her own celebrity color looks article written just about her. Attending a press conference in Brussels for her new album at the time, “Cheek To Cheek,” the singer did not fail to drop jaws yet again. Her gown was a velvet royal blue with the delicate fabric draping over one shoulder leaving a long train behind her. Gaga’s dress also had an almost revealingly high slit which she carefully maneuvered around in effortlessly.
Brandon Maxwell having designed multiple of Lady Gaga’s looks also incorporated a matching Turban for this particular get up. The star exhibited a bright red lip and a smoked out eye look which pulled the entire look together in an even bolder twist. Gaga has given us a long list of fashion serves since this 2014 event but this one is hard to forget with time and much deservingly so.
7. Purple: Cardi B
Cardi B has taken the world by storm with her witty attitude and viral works in the music industry. However, her show stopping doesn’t stop there as she has earned some mad respect in the fashion world too. Performing at a 2018 runway show for lingerie brand, Etam’s, she sported a lavender Christian Cowan suit. The outfit hugged the star in massive, profound feathers as she sang the night away.
Adding to the lavender peacock vibe, Cardi B also had slicked back purple hair with extravagant silver earrings. Her makeup was more of a soft glam look with a matte nude lip which perfectly flattered the shades of purple around her. The charismatic celebrity made quite the appearances at this Paris Fashion Week having this lavender peacock look earning rightful recognition.
