The Stylish Fashion Archetypes of Emerson College

These are the fashion archetypes of Emerson College that alumni and current students will definitely recognize!

Emerson College is notoriously known amongst the other top colleges in the Boston area as a fashion hotspot full of pretentious art students, most commonly referred to as having a “hipster style.” However, the hipster style isn’t the only prevalent fashion choice at Emerson. Emerson has a wide variety of fashion that is expressed through the diverse students that come from all over the country and world. In fact, the hipster style makes up only a small fraction of the student population. Here are some of the fashion archetypes you’ll most likely encounter at Emerson College.

The Alternative Music Skater-Esque style

This style is extremely prevalent if you involve yourself in the music scene at Emerson, aka the student radio station WECB. This look relies entirely on the assemblage of vintage clothing most likely acquired from the Garment District and the essential combination of cuffed jeans and sneakers. In addition, the look isn’t complete without the trademark of a carabiner clip on the belt loop displaying their dorm room keys. This fashion style is very laid back and gives off a sense that this person listens to obscure music or is just a generic fan of Mac Demarco, but often expresses a personality that is into DIY music, 35mm photography, and avant-garde films. This is one of Emerson’s fashion archetypes!

The Hypebeast

The hypebeast style is essential to all lovers of collecting sneakers or those who make weekly trips to Sneaker Junkies and Bodega in Boston. The hypebeast is heavily dependent on their sneaker game most likely wearing the new Nike Air Force 97 sneakers, Gucci embroidered sneakers, or the Balenciaga Triple S sneakers. Their sneaker choice is often paired with the latest Supreme clothing drop along with a ribbed beanie. The hypebeast is usually a lover of rap music most often Brockhampton and Kendrick Lamar, and is also an avid reader of the Fader Mag. If you’re looking for a style that is not only a fashion statement but a lifestyle, the Hypebeast style is an eye catching fashion choice.

The 2015 Tumblr User

Art school couldn’t be called art school if it wasn’t filled with the avid Tumblr users. 2015 Tumblr fashion consists of band t-shirts most often Nirvana and Blink-182 along with the Doc Marten 1460 8-eye boot and the staple denim jacket with pins. The 2015 Tumblr user style can be commonly found outside the Walker Building chain smoking between classes. You can’t be affiliated with the Tumblr fashion style without a cigarette behind your ear accompanied by painted black nails. Though the trend was at its peak in 2015, its legacy still remains in 2018.

The Casual High End Instagrammer

Commonly found wearing basic color tops with denim jeans, this person displays a sense of casual comfort along with a sense of savvy style, but be warned their clothes could be from the high end brand Reformation. Another popular brand most affiliated with this style is Brandy Melville, where it can be found on Newbury Street, a 15 minute walk from Emerson College. Though the casual style is cute, it can be costly based on its origin brand. However, by being a social media Instagram star like a lot of students at Emerson, you can get these brands to ship you free clothing as long as you have a minimum count of 10k followers.
