Amidst an ever-growing health-conscious world, people are more and more committed to the idea of fresh and locally harvested food and goods. It just makes sense. Why buy a loaf of bread that was baked, packaged, and then put on a truck to travel 1,000 miles, when you could buy a loaf of bread that was baked locally that day? This is why farmer’s markets have become increasingly popular. And, let’s face it, they’re the perfect way to spend a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. Here are a few farmer’s markets in Houston that are well worth the trip.
Located in East Downtown on the Navigation Esplanade, East End Farmers Market is a great family excursion. They are open every Sunday from 10 to 2 PM, and offers a blend of produce, dairy, food and handcrafted wares. Make sure to check out their 4th Friday Night Market, where they bring in food trucks, vendors and music!
Blue Field Market, located off Polk in Eado, is a great option for people who want the local foods, but also plenty of activities! They offer everything from free yoga on Sundays to mimosa and painting classes! They are open every Sunday from 10 AM to 3 PM, and I guarantee you’ll spend all that time there. From produce to food trucks to sand volleyball, how could you not?
Located in Hunters Creek Village at First Congregational Church, this is a great option for families. They have a playground and activities for the kids, live music, and even food demonstrations. They are open every Saturday from 9 AM to 1 PM, rain or shine!
This market is located at Rice University at Entrance 13B off Greenbriar Drive. It is open every Tuesday, rain or shine, from 3:30 PM to 6:30 PM.
