This is how it always works at my house: I’ll be upstairs, minding my own business, reading a book or watching Queer Eye, and my dad will yell up the stairs at me. “Your grandparents just got here! We’re cooking out, come down!” I’ll look down at what I’m wearing, usually running shorts and a t-shirt three sizes too large, and mutter some obscenity about my appearance. While it is just my family, I still want to look nice! So, here are some great options (that I will definitely be pulling from) for family cookout outfit ideas!
One thing is guaranteed at any family cookout: a food baby. You definitely don’t want to wear super tight-fitting clothes when that happens, so choose a loose-fitting garment. Flowy dresses are the absolute best way to hide a bloated belly because they skim right over any lumps or bumps perfectly!

Nine out of ten times during the summer, you’ll see me wearing some version of this outfit. Jean shorts and a t-shirt. This is something that I’m sure everyone has in their wardrobe and will keep you cool in the summer heat. Plus it’ll keep you cool when your family starts roasting you about what you’re doing after college and if you have a boyfriend yet. This is one of the classic Americana family cookout outfit ideas!

If you literally cannot bring yourself to change out of your loungewear when your family pulls into the driveway, here’s the look for you. Just alter your outfit a little bit to make it fresh. Tie the t-shirt in a knot and throw on some flowy pajama shorts that could pass as real clothes and you’re set!

Oh, how I love the flowy pants trend. It’s like wearing pajamas out in the day and people think you put effort into your outfit when in reality you slept in them the night before! Plus, these pants are so lightweight that the breeze will run right through them, keeping you from sweating.

If I’m not wearing shorts and a t-shirt in the summer, then I’m wearing jeans and a tank top. It’s the perfect outfit for days when there’s a little bit of a chill in the air and you don’t want to bring a sweatshirt along with you. The jeans will keep you warm on the bottom, and the tank will let you tan your arms!

Having sets makes the outfit selection process so effortless. When you buy a two-piece set, you’re buying the ease of never having to think about building an outfit again. It comes pre-planned and makes you look put together as heck!

Don’t we all want to look like Rachel, Monica and Phoebe? Or really any 90’s baddie who rocked overalls back in the day? I know I do. This is such a good way to look cool and stylish and like all those beautiful women from back in the day. This is one of the most casual family cookout outfit ideas.

Here’s another example of an outfit that doesn’t require any thinking! It’s a one-and-done piece that leaves you looking fabulous! This is one of the dressier and chic family cookout outfit ideas.

Maybe the over sized t-shirt your wearing is long enough to be a dress. In that case, go with it! If anyone asks, say it’s fashion and give them a wink (; .
