5 Fall Foods To Keep You Feeling Fit

During the fall we find ourselves busier than ever with the start of a new school year. We jump headfirst into our classes and activities, which lead to us maybe not making the healthiest of food choices. However, it is key that in order to be your best self this fall, you try to consume foods that will only benefit your body. Here are five fall foods to keep you feeling fit these next few months!

1. Apples

An apple a day keeps the doctor away. The saying as old as time may not prevent all of those pesky germs that come with the colder weather, but the fruit helps boost your immune system to fight off such illnesses. Apples are full of rich antioxidants that strengthen the body so that if you do come in contact with such bacteria, you won’t be as likely to contract the cold or the flu. Whether it’s sliced, in a pastry, or just as is, an apple is bound to make you feel your best this fall!

2. Pumpkin

It seems these days pumpkin is in just about everything when it comes to fall-flavored food and drinks. But you may not know that this fall food is high in antioxidants and vitamins. Their low-calorie nature also helps promote weight loss. So the next time you’re looking to get creative with a fall side dish, consider doing so with pumpkin. Also, you’re going to be much better off turning to a pumpkin pie than some of the other fall alternatives due to its low sugar content. Just make sure you’re crust follows a similar theme as well. Even a little pumpkin spice added to your drink gives you similar benefits in a small drinkable dosage.

3. Sweet Potato

Sweet potatoes are an excellent choice of a side starch to add to any dish. The vegetables are loaded with key vitamins as well as antioxidants. And since the potatoes are so high in fiber, they promote a healthy digestive tract. Also, with all those extra added antioxidants into your system, you’ll be ready to fight off any infection that may come your way this autumn. If you have never had sweet potato fries instead of french fries you’re truly missing out not only health-wise but taste-wise.

4. Pears

Pears are often one of the forgotten fall fruits but a gem nevertheless. With their sweet and rich nature, it’s truly hard to not love their taste. But besides just a rocking flavor, pears are high in vitamin c and antioxidants. There are a lot of clever ways you can mix the fruit into your fall diet if you’re not a fan of it sliced or the pear as a whole. These options include putting the fruit in a smoothie, in a warm batch of muffins, or even in a delicious batch of cookies.

Cranberries are a powerhouse fruit! They are most commonly known for being key in keeping healthy urinary tracts to prevent infection from forming. But they also are incredibly heart-healthy, keep your digestive tract in check and strengthen the immune system. If you are truly brave you will eat the fruit like they are candy. But for most people who can’t handle the bitter raw taste you’re going to want to enjoy the fruit in juice, sauce, relish, pastry or cobbler form. So next time you’re at a bog look around at the magical little fruit with a whole lot of reach just before your eyes!
