Just as you’re enjoying these hot, summer days and music festivals, fall is creeping up on you (and all of us, for that matter).
Suddenly, there’s a frantic search for fall and winter styles for outerwear and back to school/work clothing that you need to catch the sale on. And that’s just mid-August. When September rolls around, you need those styles right then and now, and there’s little to no time to actually think about what’s really in style and what would look great on you.
But that all ends today. We’ve decided to conjure up the best trends that are emerging for fall/winter 2019 in preparation for this shopping catastrophe, and we want to share it with you. So, here’s six fall/winter 2019 trends that you should watch out for, and think about buying ASAP.
Spotted clothes always make an appearance for fall and winter, especially when talking about outerwear. But the trend also extends to slips, skirts, and even jeans: there’s nothing that doesn’t look good with a few spots, and there’s also nothing that will make you feel more chic. If you haven’t found a faux fur leopard print jacket, this season is your chance.

Retire your summer yellow florals and multi-coloured bold patterns for a little darker tone this fall/winter with some darker florals (meaning black background, with a little pop of colour but not too bold). This style is perfect for days when you want to look summery but can’t cause of weather (we suggest pairing these dresses with a bomber jacket). Plus, you can style the dress with some Doc Martens and you’ll be weather-ready.

Leather on leather is a pretty normal trend fashion wise, but it seems to be coming into its own this fall/winter. But sometimes it’s really hard to find good leather elements that would look great with anything, even leather itself (which means a leather jacket, or even a shirt). We suggest investing in a leather mini skirt, which will definitely get you started.

Jewel tones are a thing this year and for plenty of reasons: they’re basically the fall/winter version of our favourite summer colours, which is great when you don’t want to admit it’s fall yet. We suggest going for either a deep magenta, sapphire blue or emerald to start, because they’re all staples of the jewel tones. But you can definitely go out with a little more boldness like yellow if you’re feeling up to the challenge.

Plaid is a fall/winter staple, for sure, but there’s nothing like going full into it rather than just keeping a few plaid flannel shirts around. Plaid can make you look super fashionable or even really professional depending on the outfit, which is why we think it’s great for the fall/winter year when you’re trying to find some good jobs. Plus, you can never go wrong with some cute plaid pants.

Lace is one of the prettiest materials to wear in our opinion, and not just because it makes you look like a princess: during fall/winter, the breaks in the lace will give you a little A/C which can be nice when you’re wearing a wool jacket and heavy denim pants. Plus, lace can go in basically every colour, so you don’t have to worry about matching outfits too much.
