8 Fall Decor Ideas Using Foliage To Brighten Your Home

When the seasons change and the trees have new looks, it can be nice to switch up your home decor as well. What better way to do that than by using fall foliage (or foliage look-alikes) to spruce up your home? So pine no more; here are 8 fall foliage decor ideas to redecorate this season.

1. Leaf garland

If you want to decorate a doorway or a mantle, try hanging up a garland of red, orange, and yellow fabric leaves. It’s a good way to add some pops of color into entryways or empty spaces. Varying the textures of the fabrics as well as the shapes and colors of the leaves will give more richness to the decoration, too.

2. Dried flower bundles

Whether they’re lying on a table or sitting in a vase, bundles of dried flowers look really cool as decor pieces. It’s a more autumnal version of having a vase of flowers, plus, they’re much less high-maintenance than live flowers. It’s actually better not to water these!

3. Pine cone bowl

Having a bowl full of pine cones is a subtle marker of the season change, if you’re not big on completely overhauling your home decor and you don’t like reds or oranges. You also probably have an empty bowl lying around somewhere, and even if you don’t have actual pine cones near you, they’re not very expensive to purchase at a craft or dollar store. You could even paint or spray-paint the cones to match your existing color scheme if the natural brown of the cones (or the color they have in store) doesn’t work for you.

4. Dried ears of corn

If you’ve ever been apple picking in a pick-your-own orchard setting, you’ve almost definitely seen these colorful ears of corn for sale. Not only are they cool to touch, but they’re also perfect for decorating your home. Try arranging them on a countertop or windowsill, or maybe place a few on random tables at home.

5. Leaf bookmarks

This may not be exactly what you imagine as decor, but it’s a way to incorporate fall foliage into your home and living spaces. When you’re in need of a bookmark or a page marker, use a leaf instead! It might be best to reach for a fabric leaf rather than a real leaf in the fall, since those tend to be dry and prone to crumbling. And no one wants to fish leaf crumbles out of the tiny spaces between pages right by the spine.

6. Autumn wreath

Does your door need a bit of fall love? Hang a nice wreath, whether you make it or buy it, and give your neighbors and any passersby some door decor envy. Add pinecones, flowers, leaves, and twigs to give it some spice, rather than a traditional flower-only wreath.

7. Leaf dish

Let your knickknacks get in on the autumnal fun with leaf dishes! Buy some air-dry clay, roll it out, and cut out whatever shape you want. Then, press a leaf into the clay so the outline and veins show up in the clay. Put the clay into a bowl and let the clay dry, and once it’s dry, you can paint it whatever color you want. Use the dish to store your keys or jewelry or whatever else needs a home so it doesn’t get lost in clutter.

8. Foliage coaster

This is super easy to make and looks really good in sets! Buy some round cork board circles (or cut some out of a larger piece of cork board) and, using a pencil, trace the outline of a leaf in the middle, then go over it with permanent marker. If you’re confident in your hand steadiness, skip the pencil and trace in marker. You can add colors to this if you want, but you could also leave it as a minimalist type of design.
