Eye shadow palettes can be intimidating at first glance, but they aren’t as scary as they appear. Using an eye shadow palette does not have to be a two hour procedure. Ladies who prefer simple morning routines can enjoy makeup too. The following palettes are my choices for girls that don’t wear makeup everyday. I have included prestige brands as well as drugstore brands.
Urban Decay’s Naked line has a cult following and for good reason. Their neutrals are sexy. This travel sized palette full of matte neutrals is a way to introduce yourself to the line without buying a full palette. Naked 2 Basics has a steady mix of light colors and dark colors. The colors are subtle and can help create a natural look. The colors are taupe hued and are more cool toned in nature than the full sized Naked 2. Urban Decay’s palettes all have a soft texture typically described as being velvety, which makes them easy to apply to the eyelids. Urban Decay’s eye shadow has stamina throughout the day. This palette can also be paired with other palettes to create bolder looks.
Nature glow has a healthy mixture of shimmers and mattes. The colors range in tone from cool grayish browns to warmer colors reminiscent of autumn leaves. The shimmers in this palette are the right amount of glitter and coordinate with the mattes in the palette well. This palette’s extensive amount of neutral colors makes it versatile and makes it an easy palette to practice makeup. It’s definitely a staple makeup beginners need to have in their makeup collection. This palette is also relatively inexpensive. Its price point is twenty-five dollars for thirty-five eye shadow shades.
Colourpop has palettes for every color of the rainbow such as an orange only palette titled “Orange You Glad.” Their palettes all have a fun and lighthearted feel to them. The Sweet Talk palette is no different. It has a cute and flirty vibe. It’s a palette that was practically made for a first date or a meet cute. It is also Colourpop’s most popular palette of all time. The dominant shades in the palette are warm corals. The palette has a few glitter toppers that aren’t too overbearing.
Too Faced has an entire chocolate bar shaped eye shadow palette collection. The eye shadow even smells like chocolate, because cocoa powder is one of the ingredients. All of the colors are inspired by sweets. This palette has a combination of five matte shades and eight shimmers. The colors are mainly warm browns with a few plums. The plums are much more bold than the rest of the palette.
The New Nude is a fresh take on neutrals. The neutrals in it are pink and mauve tinged. The palette is very feminine The textures in this palette are what make the palette stand out above so many other palettes. The shimmers have different textures and can get a little messy. The shimmers are more aimed for a nighttime look and aren’t as subtle as some of the other palettes listed so far. Some of the shimmers are a little chunky. Nonetheless, this palette is good for experimenting and has plenty of pinks that can be used for a normal day.
Rose gold hues suit everyone. Like Too Face, I Heart Revolution has a chocolate bar designed themed too. I Heart Revolution is more budget friendly and their eyeshadows are not scented. I Heart Revolution has more chocolate bar themed palettes in their collection than Too Faced. They even have a Chocolate Orange palette. This palette is a decent budget palette, but I recommend using an eye shadow primer with this palette to help the pigment last longer. The shimmers are fun to play with. It’s mainly warm tones with a few cool tones thrown in for good measure.
The Gilded Noir palette is best for evening and nighttime looks. A daytime look can be pulled off with some of the neutrals, but most of the palette can be a little extra for the day. The main colors are dark and sultry. There are some neutrals thrown into the mix. The palette not only has the standard matte finishes, but it also includes a duo chromatic, pearl finishes, and satin finishes.
The Naked 3 Palette is my personal favorite in the collection. It’s basic and subtle. The rose hued neutrals in this palette are soft and makes eyes stand out slightly. The darker colors on the right side of the palette can be paired for a smoky eye. Most of the shadows in this palette are shimmers, so keep that in mind.
Tarte has an unique formula for their eyeshadows. They use amazonian clay. It is long lasting and easy to blend. This palette is made for conservative “no makeup” looks. It has nine mattes and three shimmers. The shimmers in this palette are finely packed, so there is no fallout. Although the colors of the eyeshadow lean more towards warm, the palette can flatter anyone.
Jaclyn Hill’s palette has bright colors to explore and familiar neutrals. There are so many looks that can be created with this palette. This palette is fun to play with and has looks that can be worn on an average day. There is a balanced amount of shimmers to mattes ratio. This palette is also great for travel. Although it is large, it will have every shade you would need for vacation.
