Eyebrow Microblading: Your Guide To Semi-Permanent Eyebrow Tattoos

For the past couple of years one facial feature has unanimously been voted the most important: your eyebrows. Whether you like them thin, thick, arched or bold, the shape of your eyebrows drastically changes your look. As someone who’s incredibly lazy, touching my eyebrows hasn’t really been a part of my beauty regime. When I saw how drastically your look can change by simply polishing up your eyebrows, my lazy antics took a slight interest in microblading.

While penciling, powdering and gelling are all viable options for your eyebrows, they require daily time and energy, and that’s something I just don’t have. So when I heard about microblading, my interest spiked and I started looking into it; microblading is the most natural option that offers semi-permanent results. Who doesn’t love that? I for one do considering I’m not a beauty guru and I enjoy the no-make-up makeup look.

What Is Microblading?

Microblading is a form of tattooing. Hold up! Now I know that sounds scary since tattoos have a painful reputation; not to mention are permanent and eyebrow trends come and go as they please. Unlike regular tattoos, microblading uses a manual handheld tool. Using your pigmentation, hair-like strokes are made to resemble the natural hairs on your brows. Microblading doesn’t penetrate the skin as deeply as a tattoo would either. The process is insanely meticulous and takes roughly two hours to complete.

If you opt for microblading, the results last up to three years depending on how well you take care of your brows. For the first hour technicians draw the shape you’re looking for with a removable pencil. Surprisingly this is the longest step but it’s the most important. You don’t want to walk away unhappy with your semi-permanent new brows. Big no, no! As you can probably guess, this is a procedure that can’t be rushed. If it is, you probably should get the fuck out before they start the microblading.

Once you are finished you are good to go however you are recommended to follow-up about a month after your first appointment. Microblading takes roughly a month for the healing process to complete and during that follow up appointment there is usually a 40 minute touch up. After your procedure, the aftercare is relatively low maintenance. Similar to a tattoo, there’s no excessive sweating and no swimming. Pretty simple for us low maintenance girls.

What Does It Feel Like?

The microblading process begins by applying numbing cream; don’t freak out! It’s just to minimize discomfort if you’re nervous about the slight discomfort. Microblading gurus assure clients it’s primarily painless. Clients have compared the experience to feeling little scratches that aren’t unbearable.

How To Prepare.

If you are going to go through with the procedure the primary thing you need to know: stop drinking a week before your treatment. If you don’t the experience might get a little bloodier than intended. Avoid blood thinners, asprin and alcohol. Pretty simple, yet again.
The cost is a bit steep ranging from $600 to $900. Since it last for three years I’d say it’s worth it if it means waking up every day with perfect eyebrows having done nothing.

Who Has Done It?

Several celebrities have undergone the microblade procedure and are huge fans of it. Here is a list of some of my favorite microblading celebs: Selena Gomez, Olivia Culpo, Jennifer Lawerence, Rihanna and Jessica Alba are just a few of the many celebs who indulge in this beauty regime.
