Nothing’s open on Sundays

Good luck if you want to go shopping on a Sunday. In Germany, Sunday is the day of rest and most shops aren’t open, though bakeries and restaurants are in bigger cities. So when in Germany, you better do your food shop on a Saturday to avoid starvation.

Recycling is key

When buying drink in plastic or glass bottles in Germany, you don’t just throw them away after, you keep them and return them at your local supermarket and get a refund, called Pfand. Germans love their breakfast

In other countries, breakfast consists of either a coffee and a croissant or a massive fry up, but not in Germany! Germans love a big breakfast buffet, almost a bit like brunch, with rolls, a cheese platter, sausage plate (duh!), loads of jam and other spreads.
