Everything You Need To Do In Singapore This Summer

If you’re planning a trip to Singapore this Summer break, here are the things you absolutely have to do when you’re there.

1. Jewel Changi Airport

Once you step out of the plane, your first adventure awaits. First opening its doors in late April this year, Jewel Changi Airport is a 10-storey retail and lifestyle development that features the world’s tallest indoor waterfall.

Singaporeans and tourists alike fawn over the new space, for many new food chains will reintroduce or introduce themselves into the market again, namely Shake Shack, A&W, and the Pokémon merchandise store. About half of the tenants at Jewel will be local brands, ensuring that tourists leave with a piece of Singapore. Even if you’re not one to shop, they have light and sound shows in the evenings that you can check out too. If that doesn’t appeal to you too, the architecture is surely enough to make you want to pop by.

2. Singapore Food Festival

As a country that’s known for the food diversity, the festival will have several events where you’ll get to taste several Singapore’s favourite local dishes and a twist on a couple of modern ones, in addition to several fusion food. The festival will only be held a week so plan your trip well!

3. Hawker Centres

If you’re unable to be in the country during the above Food Festival, fret not for there are plenty of hawker centres around that you can still feast on at affordable prices. Try checking out Tiong Bahru Market, Maxwell Food Centre, Old Airport Road. Even if it isn’t a stall famous for a particular dish, any local delight that I’ve had has never left me disappointed.

4. Marina Bay Sands

Sip on a cocktail in the infinity pool at the Sands SkyPark while you get that money shot you saw in Crazy Rich Asians. There’s also plenty of other things to do around the area. Inside the Shoppes, there’s a canal running right through the entire mall, so you can hop on one of the sampans for a ride, much like a gondola ride in Venice but in tiny Singapore instead. There’s also a light and water show every evening just right outside the mall but if you happen to miss that, there’s also a digital light canvas inside the mall where it’s almost interactive, by which I mean they somewhat detect your feet such that the floor lights up with the various installations they have going on.

If you’re done at the mall, you can also head over to Gardens by the Bay, the world’s largest greenhouse with an indoor waterfall, seasonal flowers and all sorts of flora really. I’m not one to care for shrubs or anything like that, but I was in awe when I paid a visit. There are loads of insta-worthy shots you can get in too, and the Supertrees light up nightly for a light show as well. There’s so many activities going on around the area, you’re bound to find one that suits your interests.

5. Singapore Night Safari

Singapore might be small but we have many “firsts” or world-renowned things and one of such is the Night Safari. The world’s first nocturnal wildlife park offers something out of the ordinary where you get to see creatures of the night get about their nightly rituals. There are plenty of shows running as well as a tram that takes you around the rainforest. Give it a shot, it’s an exciting and fresh experience being in the zoo at night.

6. Clarke Quay

At the fringe of Singapore’s CBD lies Clarke Quay, a thriving nightlife area that so happens to have the Singapore river snaking through the district. It’s super pretty with the river reflecting the lights at night, and it’s just a jolly experience to have a taste of Singapore’s drinking and clubbing scene. If you’re not into that, there’s also the reverse bungy that you can go on for your dose of adrenaline.
