If you're from Texas or just visiting, here's a list of things you MUST do on your next day trip to Galveston TX, from eateries to attractions.

Galveston Island is the perfect place for Houstonians to take a vacation without going far. The island is full of great food, shopping and attractions that are perfect for a day trip. There are plenty of things to do for kids, adults and family members from out of town. Endless possibilities are just down the freeway! Here’s a list of ways to make your day trip to Galveston TX perfect.

1. Transportation

Galveston is about an hour long drive from downtown Houston to the beach. If your trip is on a weekend, plan for heavy traffic, especially in the summer. To determine what time to leave, factor in all the activities you would like to do and what time you would  like to be home.

2. What to bring

If any part of your day involves the beach, you will need your typical beach gear: swimsuit, towel, sunscreen, sunglasses, umbrella and chair, if you have them. If you’re spending the day shopping and eating, wear comfortable shoes and breathable clothing, as it gets very hot mid-day. Check the weather. You will either need sunglasses or an umbrella.

3. Where to shop

Galveston has incredible antique and vintage shops, many with one of a kind items you would only find on the island. Flea by the sea is all about putting forth a whimsical collection of refreshed vintage finds mixed with new decor accessories.
