Summer is a time for making memories with friends and loved ones. One of the most popular ways to do this is to go on a road trip. Whether you have a destination in mind or are being spontaneous, road trips are great ways to see new places, make new memories and experience new things. That is, as long as you have what you need! The rest is up to you, but to help you prep we have everything you need for a summer road trip.
Obviously, if you are going to be doing a lot of driving, you will need your license, proof of insurance and registration (which you should always have anyway). In addition to that, for a long trip you should have a car repair kit, a spare tire and jump cables just in case something happens along the way. Also, have your car’s manual on hand. Once you have all of the practical stuff taken care of, make sure you have a car cooler stocked with snacks and cold drinks to refuel!
If you drink a lot of coffee, constantly having to dispose of paper cups is wasteful. And you’ll kill time having to find a place to discard the empty cup. Having a cute travel mug cuts down on waste and allows you to refill it at any coffee shop. Just be sure to rinse it out before reusing it! And with all of that dehydrating, you’re gonna need a water bottle, too.
You most likely know to bring your wall charger, but also make sure you have a portable charger that is charged, or a cable that can plug into your car. If you do not have one of these, it is wise to invest in one just in case.
Have a first aid kit filled with things such as band-aids and other essentials such as wrap bandages and pain relievers just in case. Also, make sure you have bug spray, sunscreen and sunglasses for when you are outdoors. Hand sanitizer is also crucial since you never know how far away your next stop is, and driving around feeling germy is no fun.
When you’re wracking your brain for everything you need for a summer road trip, you may forget about the adventure of it all. Bring along an actual camera instead of relying on your phone’s battery life. It can be a digital or a film camera. Also, bring along a notebook and writing utensils to make notes about all of the fun things you do along the way. Websites like Shutterfly have photo books that you can customize for those who went on the adventure with you. Have a blanket and pillow to stop somewhere to take a nap or have a picnic lunch. Travel games can be fun to play during downtime and can help create memories.
Make sure you are stocked up on feminine hygiene products so that you are not caught off-guard. Bring shampoo, conditioner, body wash or soap, a towel, and a wash rag just in case the motel or hotel you stay at does not supply these. Also, bring a hairbrush or comb and your makeup, but keep your travel makeup regimen simple. Have hair ties on hand so that your hair stays out of your face. Be sure to bring toothpaste and a toothbrush to keep your teeth clean.
