Everything You Need to Know About UC Berkeley’s Party Scene
UC Berkeley has a great party scene, but especially if you’re an incoming freshman or a transfer student, how are you supposed to know where to go? Where are the best spots? Look no further. Keep reading for some insight into everything you need to know regarding UC Berkeley’s party scene!
Freshman Year UC Berkeley Parties
First year is characterized by: game days, bringing alcohol into the dorms, and crashing frat parties. Free drinks and meeting new people are heavily welcomed.
Game Day Parties
Game days at Cal are amazing. Wake up early, attend a barbecue, pre-game (drink at a frat or an apartment) then take a short stroll to the stadium. You might get a little dizzy from the dancing and the chanting while being drunk under the sun. So head home for a quick nap before you start partying again.

Truth About The Fraternities
The frats are a popular place to party at UC Berkeley. However, the “heavenly glow” around fraternities may fade. Some male students may not be able to get into the frats, due to low guy/girl ratio. The bathrooms are generally rank, and you’ll soon develop a rash from dancing and grinding on too many sweaty people.
Berkeley & Oakland Bars
Good thing there’s a lovely alternative to frats…bars. No other city in the Bay Area has Berkeley’s unique history and the presence of nearly 40,000 college students.
Bear’s Lair, Kip’s, and Pappy’s
The bars that are probably closest to campus.

Jupiter’s
Go to Jupiter’s for jazz and a cozy venue.
Albatross Pub
Visit the Albatross Pub for British pub vibes.
Henry’s
Visit Henry’s for a Stanford urinal you can pee on,
Triple Rock
Hang at Triple Rock for sophisticated yet frat-like grad students.
…The list goes on so just go bar hopping with friends and see what you like.
And last but not least…the best part of the party scene at UC Berkeley: Proximity to San Francisco
The best perk of going to Cal is that its “party scene” extends to San Francisco, where there are countless great night clubs, bars, and anything else you want in between. There are always world-famous DJs spinning at the local clubs and bands playing at low key venues.
Tip: I recommend getting a zip car for the night and driving into the city with friends to realize being a golden bear is a damn privilege.
