Everyone has their staple clothing items. They may vary from person to person, but ultimately they are go-to items that make you feel comfortable and ready to take on the day. Even though staple clothing items can and do vary for each person, there are a few things that will help any woman find the core of her style. These staples can also help anyone looking to take on the challenge of a capsule wardrobe!
A comfy jacket is a must-have for any woman. They are so versatile and can be worn pretty much all year round! You can pair them with some boots or a crop top and sneakers for a more athletic look. This Playboy x Missguided jacket is the perfect staple for any wardrobe!

White, black, gray, blue, pink, long sleeve or short sleeve, any basic t-shirt will do. I find myself reaching for my basic t’s more often than not because they go with anything. I can dress them up with a cute pair of pants and some sandals, or dress them down with denim and a flannel tied around my waist. You really can’t go wrong with a basic tee in your wardrobe!

This can be a cotton button-up, a flannel, a long sleeve, or short sleeve, but the idea is that it does what it says, it buttons up. I find that these tops are flattering and can be dressed up or worn casually – which is how I typically dress – and they are super easy to wear. I have long sleeve button-ups, short-sleeve button-ups, and flannel tops, and honestly, these are the majority of my wardrobe now, since I put my sweaters away for the summer.

We all need a light jacket regardless of where you live. Those chillier days hit us all – some harder than others – and we all need a little extra layer from time to time to keep warm or keep the wind from chilling our bones!

If you aren’t a jacket girl, or even if you are, a staple cardigan or sweater, or both, really is one of my staple clothing items and from what I’ve seen, so many women feel the same way. There are thin and thick sweaters and cardigans to suit any climate and so many styles that you are sure to find one that suits you best.

Denim is my favorite, I’m not kidding. I will totally rock a Candian tuxedo from time to time (or daily sometimes). But a staple pair of jeans is a must for your wardrobe. If you like the polished and clean look, opt for a darker pair of denim with no distressing, or if you enjoy the look of the raw hem, opt for a pair of jeans with holes and/or a raw ankle hem.

Dress pants, cute and casual pants, or jeans, a pair of black pants will do you wonders. I have black pants in multiple styles and I love the classic, effortless look they all seem to have. I also recommend black shorts if you like shorts. I’m someone who, like G-Eazy, will wear “black on black on black down to the shoe strings”, so these are a no brainer for me in any style I can get my hands on, which is why they are on my list of staple clothing items.

I’m not that much of a dress or romper girl, so they aren’t one of those staple clothing items I reach for a lot, but I do think it’s important to have at least one of these items in your wardrobe for those times where you might need to dress a bit “nicer” than you normally do. I have two summer dresses and two dresses more suitable for the colder months just in case I have a wedding, graduation, or some other occasion that a dress seems suitable for. I’d love to find an amazing black jumpsuit, but I haven’t found the right one yet so I’m still looking.

A few years ago I wanted to be the queen of handbags, but I’ve realized that all I really need are my go-to bags. However, these bags don’t have to be basic or neutral colors. I have two that have fringe on them and two that are more sophisticated – I have others but of bags I use most often, these are what work for me. If you want a pink bag to be your go-to bag, then let that be your go-to bag. If you like studs, let your bag have studs. The look of the bag doesn’t matter as long as you love it and it works for everyday use!

This may sound vague, but I promise you that when it comes to stale clothing items, your accessories are where you can take even a basic t-shirt and make it your own. I’m not a big earring girl, I often forget that I have my ears pierced, but I love necklaces and sunglasses. Those are my go-to accessories. I used to love hats, bracelets, and rings, so whatever you find yourself gravitating toward, embrace it, and as your style evolves, incorporate your go-to accessories into your staple wardrobe.

Sneakers have been very trendy recently, and honestly, I’m living for it. Sneakers are super versatile and good for your feet. You can wear them to work, running errands, out with your friends, on a date, really anywhere because there are so many options of styles and how to wear them that you really can’t go wrong.

For those days when you don’t want to wear sneakers, wear sandals or whatever type of shoe you reach for the most. I am a sandal and Birkenstock fan and I love any kind of shoe that offers great support but doesn’t look like a grandma shoe, which tends to be sandals, but if you don’t like sandals but like to rock the various styles of booties or heels all year, by all means, you found your staple shoe!
