Everyone has their favorite Christmas song, but honestly there are so many to choose from to set the mood for the holiday season! Whether you like classics or modern renditions, Spotify has it all. Start creating your own Christmas playlist with these popular and well-known additions, so you can celebrate with music all season long.
This Christmas song is a classic, from the movie White Christmas. And who isn’t always dreaming of a white Christmas? This one is obviously a Bing Crosby original from that famous movie, and I prefer that version of it over any others. May all your Christmases be white!
A jolly tune, this is a popular song among children but I love that it reminds me I’m a child at heart, especially around Christmas time. Be good for goodness sake! It also reminds me to be kind during the Christmas season. It can be a hard time for people who are mourning the loss of someone close, or don’t have family to celebrate with. Remember that, and reach out to anyone who you think might be lonely during the holidays.
I absolutely love the version of this classic Christmas song by Ingrid Michaelson. It makes me super emotional anytime I hear it, as it’s just the right balance of delicate singing, with acoustic music to accompany Michaelson’s beautiful voice. It’s also a good reminder that just for once, during the holiday season, it’s easy to forget about our troubles and just enjoy the company of our family and friends.
This song is one of my favorite Frank Sinatra Christmas songs. To be honest, it makes me a little sad. But, it also reminds me about all the good things of Christmas: the magic, the giving spirit, the beautiful sights and sounds. Remember how love was all around, whatever happened to it all? It’s a great reminder to enjoy and cherish every second of the Christmas season, and hold onto it in your heart to keep you warm through the whole next year.
Another Christmas song on the roster of songs best sung by a choir. All together, with the sound of a lot of voices, this song is quite magical! I love how it tells a story, too.
The best song for college students and anyone who lives far from family during the holiday season. Last fall I lived in Italy, and this song was definitely my favorite because I would be returning home just in time for Christmas! Please have snow, and mistletoe, and presents on the tree. It’s such a beautiful song, all about Christmas finding you where the love light gleans.
This is one of my absolute favorite Christmas songs (which is so hard to choose, by the way), but once you listen to it you’ll see why. It makes me crazy nostalgic with its lyrics, all about singing carols, stringing popcorn, playing in the snow…I can’t wait to do all of these things every holiday season! This song makes me think of all the Christmases past. You might have the sudden urge to look through old photos or home videos after hearing it.
Is there anything more classic than Silent Night? This is another beloved Christmas song in my book, especially when it’s sung by a choir at church. It’s just a little too high pitched for me to attempt on my own, let’s be honest! Such a beautiful song though, and always helps me remember the magical reason behind Christmas.
If there’s any Christmas song to take me back to my childhood, it is this one! I can’t help but imagine jolly old cartoon Frosty the Snowman whenever I hear this song. Add that one to your Christmas movie list, too. You might just want to build your own Frosty the Snowman after listening to this song.
All is merry and bright. Hang your stockings and say your prayers, ’cause Santa Claus comes tonight. The best version of this absolute classic, in my opinion, is with Bing Crosby and The Andrews Sisters. Their voices just can’t compare to anyone else!
The Michael Bublé version, of course. This one is a classic that cannot be missed on any Christmas playlist you make.
I know not everyone likes this one or listens to it, but it’s a great Christmas song if you’re spending the holiday somewhere warm! I have always loved this one because it makes me dream of warm places, since I usually spend Christmas in a city covered in snow.
The Christmas song for all the lonely people out there who are just longing for someone to spend the holiday with. Whether you are single, in a complicated relationship, or doing long distance with your love, I think we can all relate! I mean, who doesn’t want a significant other for Christmas?
By the Nat King Cole trio, of course. Wow! This might be in my top five of Christmas songs. It warms my heart just hearing it, and will forever make me think of the Christmas season in Italy or New York, where chestnuts truly are roasting on an open fire on almost every corner. Makes me smile just to even think of it, much less hear this beautiful song.
If you need another great artist to add to your Spotify Christmas song list, Andrea Bocelli is a must. He’s an Italian opera singer who has collaborated with other artists across the world, and his version of Angels We Have Heard On High is truly incomparable. Singing glorrrrr-ooorrrr-orrrrr-iaaaaaaa! This is me and my siblings favorite song to sing at midnight mass on Christmas Eve at full volume, of course. It brings me so much joy.
When I was in high school, we had a dance the day after Christmas called “Silver Bell.” So this song will always remind me of that, because many girls used it in whatever ploy they came up with to ask a guy to the dance (it was our one girl-ask-guy dance of the year). Either way, this classic song is on repeat for me from Thanksgiving to New Years.
Best for remembering the reason for the season. This is another song I always look forward to hearing at church, sung by a choir. It’s just better that way! I can only imagine what it must have been like for Mary to arrive to Bethlehem and give birth to Jesus in a stable.
There are just so many good Christmas songs, I couldn’t possibly try to fit them all here. There are a few others you should be sure to include on your playlist this year:
