Essential House Supplies For Your Pantry

Your pantry needs to be filled with supplies that are practical, easy to store, and universally applicable to most situations. Having a well-stocked pantry is an easy way to save money (by buying in bulk). It’s a good place to store any number of things: food, synthetic chemicals, emergency supplies, etc. Essential pantry supplies are all the rage in the epoch of our dear “stable genius,” Potion No. 45…made with ambergris, orange cheese puffs, and swamp juice.

Flour

Flour is the key ingredient for many, many baking recipes. It’s a thickening agent for lots of dishes. It’s also a very useful device for antiquing people.

If you eat as many pancakes as I do, this is absolutely essential. Make sure to store gluten-free flour in your pantry, in case you have a guest over who has celiac.

Buy The Product:

Sugar

As much as sugar is damaging society and the longevity of its citizens, it just tastes so much like addiction. Big Sugar is definitely behind the positive body-image campaign. This is used to make confections of an unhealthy caliber. This unscheduled substance should be stored in the event that you need extra.

Sugar can be used as a preservative, so it becomes useful in situations. This can include other items like artificial sweeteners, as you need less of them to get the same amount of sweetness.

Buy The Product:

Oats

You’ll find that oats are useful. They are most commonly used for breakfast and baking. They go well with yogurt, too.

Buy The Product:

Peanut Butter

This tastes great and can replace a missed meal in a pinch. There are few people who downright hate peanut butter. People-with-allergies’ archnemeses include peanuts. It can be useful to keep other types of butter around, but the catch here is that peanut butter doesn’t have to be stored in the fridge, whereas sunflower butter does.

Buy The Product:

Olive Oil

This is a good item to have on hand. You always need some oil to cook with, and you don’t want to start making a meal, only to find that you’d forgotten to buy it.

Buy The Product:

Rice

This stuff is a godsend for those of us who live in poverty. It’s cheap, will fill you up, and can be healthy if you buy the stuff that hasn’t been bleached out. Rice can be bought in bulk and then stored in airtight containers.

Buy The Product:

Canned Tomatoes

Canned tomatoes are a good addition to many dishes. Tomatoes tend to ripen quickly. While canned anything isn’t the most healthy item, it’s still better than not having tomatoes at all.

Buy The Product:

Balsamic Vinegar

Vinegar, in general, is a great preservative and cooking additive. Balsamic vinegar is made from grape must.

Buy The Product:

Dried Beans

These are cheap and—as long as they’re stored properly—can stay good for years. The only caveat is that you have to soak them overnight. Convenience comes at a cost.

Buy The Product:

Salt

Salt is necessary. Iodized salt was introduced in the early 1900s to the U.S.

Buy The Product:

Broth

Broth is a big one. Chicken and vegetable broth are often added as the base to a lot of recipes.

Buy The Product:

Coconut Milk Powder

This is an amazing thickener for dishes and essential for making eastern dishes.

Buy The Product:

Soy Sauce

Soy sauce goes well with plain rice and Sriracha. It is a delicious condiment. It can also be used when cooking western dishes.

Buy The Product:

Canned Marinara Sauce

If you cook noodles and they become soft, you have a limited amount of time before they go bad. If you forgot to get the marinara sauce, then you might have to eat something that’s less than stellar.

Buy The Product:

Dried Creamer

Creamer is necessary for the coffee enthusiast who can’t handle the bitter truth of a black cup of joe. There are a couple types of pantry-safe creamers, including the little, single-serve ones.

Buy The Product:

Toilet Paper

This is the most essential item on this list, next to water and rice. There’s no reason why you shouldn’t buy them in bulk and throw them in your pantry.

How many times have you had a close call with not having enough toilet paper? If you like to procrastinate, then you obviously wait until the last minute to go out shopping for toilet paper. That’s a dangerous game you’re playing.

Buy The Product:

Glass Cleaner Fluid

This is good to keep around in case your car windows get too dirty. It’s not a disinfectant, but it is still necessary.

Buy The Product:

Dish Soap

This is another one of those, can’t-normally-live-without-it items. This substance is responsible for trillions of daily deaths.

Buy The Product:

Sponges

It’s always good to have spare sponges on hand, because the bacteria that build up on there can cause foodborne illnesses. This is a serious issue where people think that regular dish soap can slay all of those food germs. Even bleaching a sponge isn’t the best idea, as you could miss something. The one that survives is now stronger and you have to compete with germs that totally lift bro.

Buy The Product:

Jugged Water

Water is the most essential item on this list. It’s within the Survival Rule of Threes:

  • You can survive three minutes without air
  • Three hours in severe weather extremes
  • Three days without drinkable water
  • Three weeks without food
  • Three seconds without saying like

Final Thoughts

A pantry can be used for food, supplies, or equipment. The easiest way to shop for items, that you’re out of, is to take a picture of the pantry after you’ve filled it. When you go to refill a depleted pantry, take a picture of the after. Compare the two. Voila.

This list is by no means comprehensive. We would love to hear what you keep in your pantry, what you wish you could keep in there, or what you got to anticipate a potential, all-out, nuclear apocalypse. Comment below!
