Easy Ways To Redecorate Your Room On A Budget
Have you ever looked around at your room and felt entirely dissatisfied with how it looked? Yeah, me too. The urge to ship everything off and buy an entire new room is definitely there, but most of us are living on some sort of budget and really cannot afford to start again. With this in mind, here are five budget-friendly tips you can use to brighten up your room without spending a ton of money that you really should be saving for more important things, like, say, food. Here’s how you can redecorate your room on a budget!
1. Trawl Through Some Thrift Shops
Thrift shops, or charity shops in general, can be brilliant places to find affordable and eccentric knick-knacks and trinkets. I’ve even seen whole china sets in there for less than £5! Depending on where you go, you could find a whole range of pre-owned gems that inspire conversation and help to perk up your room without spending a fortune. Plus, you can always feel good about the fact you’re helping something someone once loved to find a home once more!
2. Take a Trip to Ikea
Ah, Ikea. The holy grail of unpronounceable Swedish furniture names and clean, simple design. If you want something brand new that won’t break the bank, Ikea always has your back, from the iconic Billy bookcase to an array of incredibly cheap candles in every colour of the rainbow. Ikea has everything you could possibly want if you’re sick of looking at that slightly shabby dresser in your room you’ve had since you were seven. Remember to leave enough time to stop off for meatballs at the end!
3. Clear out the Attic
Just like going to the thrift shop, except you don’t actually have to leave your house or spend any money. If your house is anything like mine, your parents will have shoved bits of perfectly good furniture or decoration they no longer want on display in the attic until somebody decides they want it. In my attic alone, I’ve found entire sets of bar stools, two rocking chairs, an old desk, and several suitcases. You never know what could be in yours until you make the trek upstairs to find out! Your parents will probably also be grateful to you for taking a piece off their shoulders if you’re taking it to your own place – what’s not to love? This is one of the best tips to follow when it comes to how to redecorate your room!
4. Embrace Your Inner Crafter
Crafting is everywhere at the moment, from DIY slime to repurposing furniture, so why not take a page from the crafting book and get stuck in yourself? You can cover an old chair with fabric, spray paint a peeling wardrobe or a bookcase, or even sand down a piece to make it look picture perfect! Another perk of doing-it-yourself, besides the low cost, is that you will have officially earned bragging rights whenever anyone has the audacity to call you lazy for at least a year afterwards – sounds like a win to me!
5. Rope in a Friend or Two
Who says you have to pay someone to paint? If you’re not that fussed about precision, head down to a store, pick out your desired paint colour, and entice your friends over with the promise of a takeaway afterwards! Depending on how big your room is you can complete the painting in a few hours, and whenever you look at it you’ll remember the fun memories you had doing it with your friends. Just don’t look too closely at that spot where you might have plastered it on a bit too thickly in your enthusiasm. This is one of the best tips when it comes to how to redecorate your room!
Now get decorating without having to flush your meagre savings down the drain!
