10 Easy Mug Cakes and Desserts You Can Make In Your Microwave

Baking a dessert can sometimes be a lot of work and can take a long time to do. With how busy so many people are, sometimes you just want to throw some ingredients together and into the microwave and still get that delicious sweet treat. Luckily, there are hundreds of amazing and easy to follow recipes for microwavable cakes and desserts that require ingredients that you likely just have lying around in your house. Here are some innovative and simple microwave recipes to help you get your sweet tooth fix.

Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Mug Cake

This is a delicious dessert for all the peanut butter lovers out there. For this recipe, you’ll need 4 tablespoons of all-purpose flour, ¼ teaspoon of baking powder, 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar, ¼ cup of fat free milk, 3 tablespoons of creamy peanut butter, and 3 tablespoons of semi sweet chocolate chips. Mix all of these ingredients together except the chocolate chips in a microwave safe mug until no chunks remain. Slowly add one tablespoon of chocolate chips at a time into your batter. Add the final tablespoon of chocolate chips into the center of the batter. Microwave your batter for one minute or until cooked all the way through.

Snickerdoodle Mug Cake

This snickerdoodle dessert is sure to satisfy anyone’s sweet tooth. For this mug cake recipe, you’ll need ¼ cup and 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour, 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar, ¼ teaspoon of baking powder, ¼ teaspoon of cinnamon, ¼ cup of room temperature non-fat milk, 2 tablespoons of melted and cooled salted butter, and ½ teaspoon of vanilla extract. In a microwave safe mug, whisk your flour, sugar, baking powder, and cinnamon together until smooth. Afterwards, blend your milk, butter, and vanilla into your mixture. On top of your batter, sprinkle 1 tablespoon of sugar and ¼ teaspoon of cinnamon. Microwave your batter for one minute or until cooked all the way through.

Chocolate Mug Cake

This dessert is perfect for all of the crazy chocolate lovers out there. For this molten chocolate cake, you’ll need 2 tablespoons of butter, melted and cooled, 3 tablespoons of heavy cream, 1 egg, 1/4 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract, 1 pinch of salt, 3 tablespoons of all-purpose flour, 4 tablespoons of granulated sugar, 2 tablespoons of unsweetened baking cocoa, 3 tablespoons of semi-sweet chocolate chips, and 1/4 cup vanilla bean ice cream. Mix your butter, cream, egg, vanilla, and salt together into a microwave safe mug until well blended. Add in your flour, sugar and cocoa and stir until everything is combined. Afterwards, add your chocolate chips to the top of your batter. You can also mix them into the batter or concentrate them towards the center for more of a molten chocolate cake. Microwave your batter for one minute or until cooked all the way through. Once your cake is cooked, add your vanilla bean ice cream to the top.

Cinnamon Roll

If you love your daily dose of cinnamon in the morning, this microwavable dessert is a must try. For your cinnamon roll, you’ll need 9 tablespoons of all-purpose flour, ¾ teaspoon of baking powder, a pinch of salt, 3-4½ tablespoons of water, a dash of oil for greasing the mug, ¾ teaspoon of cinnamon, 1½ tablespoons of granulated sugar, and ½ teaspoon of water. For the frosting, you’ll need 3 tablespoons of powdered sugar, and around ¾ teaspoon of plant-based milk or water. First, grease your mug with a dash of the oil of your choice. Then make the frosting by mixing the powdered sugar with your plant-based milk or water until smooth. In a separate bowl, mix your flour, baking powder and salt until combined. Gradually add your water until it starts to thicken to a dough-like consistency. Roll your dough into a long strip that’s about 4 inches tall. Sprinkle your cinnamon and sugar onto the dough, roll it up and place the dough into your mug. Pour your ½ teaspoon of water overtop and microwave one minute or until cooked all the way through. Drizzle your frosting over the top of your cinnamon roll for the finishing touch. 

S’mores Chocolate Mug Cake

If you miss making s’mores over the camp fire, this dessert will bring you all the nostalgia. For this cake, you’ll need 1/4 cup of flour, 3 tablespoons of granulated sugar, 1/4 teaspoon of baking powder, 1 tablespoon of cocoa powder, a pinch of salt, 1/4 cup of nonfat milk, 2 tablespoons of oil, a splash of pure vanilla extract, 3 tablespoons of mini marshmallows, 3 tablespoons of chocolate chips, and 1 crushed graham cracker. First, mix your flour, sugar, baking powder, cocoa powder and salt into your microwavable mug until combined. Afterwards, blend your milk, oill, and vanilla into the mixture until combined. To the top of your batter, add 2 tablespoons of the chocolate chips and 2 tablespoons of the marshmallows, and top it off with half of the crushed graham crackers. Microwave for only 40 seconds. Once you’ve cooked your cake most of the way, add the remaining chocolate chips, marshmallows and graham crackers to the top and microwave for an additional 10-20 seconds. 

Chocolate Chip Cookie

If you love gooey chocolate chip cookies, this simple recipe is for you. To make your chocolate chip cookie, you’ll need 1 tablespoon of melted butter, 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar, 1 tablespoon of brown sugar, 3 drops of pure vanilla extract, a pinch of salt, 1 egg yolk, around 1/4 cup of all purpose flour, and 2 heaping tablespoons of semi-sweet chocolate chips. First, combine your butter, sugars, vanilla and salt into your mug into your microwavable mug. Next, stir in your egg yolk into your mixture until combined well. Afterwards, gradually add your flour until well combined. Finally, stir in the chocolate chips. Microwave for 40-60 seconds or until fully cooked.

Pumpkin Mug Cake

If you have vanilla cake batter mix on hand, this is an easy recipe to put it to use and add some pumpkin spice into your day. For this dessert, you’ll need 3 tablespoons of white cake mix, 1 tablespoon of pumpkin puree, 1 tablespoon of water, and 1/2 teaspoon of pumpkin pie spice. Mix your ingredients into your microwavable mug until well combined and microwave for one minute or until cooked all the way through. Once cooked, add some additional pumpkin pie spice and whipped cream to the top.

Peanut Butter Popcorn

If you’re not interested in a mug cake, this popcorn is a delicious and easy option to get your sweet fix. For this dessert, you’ll need 2 packages of popped microwave popcorn, ½ cup of butter, ¾ cup of brown sugar, ¼ cup of peanut butter, and 20 large marshmallows. For this dessert, you’ll need 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour, 2 tablespoons of brown sugar, 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder, ⅛ teaspoon of baking powder, 1 pinch of salt, 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil, 2 tablespoons of water, and 2 drops vanilla extract. First, combine your flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt in a microwavable mug. Afterwards, add your vegetable oil, water, and vanilla extract and stir until your mixture is smooth. Microwave your batter for one minute or until cooked all the way through.

Apple Crisp

This delicious apple crisp recipe will help anyone get into the fall mood. For this dessert, you’;; need 4 large granny smith apples, peeled, cored and sliced, ½ cup of melted butter, ¾ cup of brown sugar, ¾ cup of quick cooking oats, ½ cup of all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, and ½ teaspoon of allspice. First, spread your apples out on a small baking dish. In a separate bowl, combine your melted butter, brown sugar, oats, flour, cinnamon and allspice and add on top of your apples. Microwave for 10-12 minutes and pair with some vanilla ice cream.
