Easy meals are hard to come by. Between cramming for exams, late night munchies and avoiding walking to the caf, dorm snacks are a must. If the small snacks aren’t cutting it, here are some easy meals you can make in your room.
I recommend either a microwave or toaster oven, but most common rooms should have this. If not, make friends with the guy down the hall who’s room always smells like somethings cooking, he knows how to make easy meals.
Cut up some veggies and cheese and stir them in a bowl or cup with eggs. Microwave, add salt and pepper and you have an omelette in a cup and one heck of an easy meal.
Stock your mini-fridge with sandwich meat, mayo, pickles and whatever else you like on your sandwiches. Instead of just having a bagel, add some nutrients and make it a bagelwich. If you have a toaster oven, toast it in there. If you dare, even add some of your cream cheese to your sandwich.
Grab a bag of chips, your favourite nacho toppings, grate some cheese or buy the grated kind if you’re without a cheese-grater, and throw them in the toaster oven.
Keep a can of tomato sauce handy, your favourite cheeses and add your preferred toppings. Toss this baby in the microwave or toaster oven and you’re all set.
What’s nice about a Greek salad is that you don’t have to cook anything. All you need is your feta cheese, veggies and some salad dressing. If you don’t have dressing, make your own with oil, vinegar, lemon, garlic and whatever spices your heart desires.
Grab some instant rice that you can cook in the microwave. Prep and add all of the veggies you want, some soy sauce and you’re all set. A rice bowl is a very quick and easy meal. You can also substitute for quinoa if you’re health conscious.
If you’re feeling nostalgic, make a banana and peanut butter sandwich. It is actually quite filling and will probably be the easiest meals you ever make. Toast your bread if you can for a nice crunch.
I used to make this as a quick lunch when time was of the essence, or if I was being lazy. All you need is a bowl, avocados, onion, tomato, garlic, lemon and lime for your most basic guac out there.
If you want to annoy your roommate, having a magic bullet is the way to do this. It also makes for a super easy meal if you want to grab something and go.
The trendy version of a dorm-room meal is avocado toast and you won’t have to pay a lot for something you can make easily. If you’re adventurous, drizzle some honey or balsamic glaze on top.
Adding oatmeal to your easy meal menu is a great idea. It is quick, healthy and easy to make. Add some fresh fruit on top to spice it up and you’re good to go!
Keeping yogurt on hand is a great snack idea, but adding granola and fresh fruit is more filling and well balanced.
Easy meals are essential for dorm-room life. Try making some of these to keep the cost of eating out low, and to help when you’re on the go.
