Easy Labor Day Appetizers Everyone Will Enjoy

Labor Day may be weeks away, but it’s never too early to start thinking about what dish you may be bringing to that end of the summer party. While it’s a nice thought to pretend we’re Rachel Ray, we all know when that weekend comes, we’re going to be mainly focused on squeezing the last out of that summer sun that we can. So for a simple and stress-free route, here are five easy Labor Day appetizers that everyone will enjoy!

1. Pigs in a Blanket

This app is classic summer and is a perfect snack to help you and your friend celebrate the last weekend of summer. The dish is fairly simple in nature, and only requires pre-packaged mini wieners and crescent dough. I always found making them incredibly fun and pretty relaxing too. You’re going to want to boil the dogs ahead of time and once those are done you can begin the wrapping. Then you’re going to want to let them get nice and toasty in the oven for about 15 minutes. You can even mix and match certain dipping sauces to add a little mystery and excitement to the appetizers. Some good pairings would be honey mustard and cheese dip!

2. Scallops Wrapped in Bacon

Scallops are by far my favorite shellfish, as they are so rich in flavor. Growing up on Cape Cod, I was spoiled with some of the best seafood in the country, but regardless of your location, this treat is bound to be a hit. The tender and chewy nature of both scallops and bacon mix together in perfect harmony. Now not even one likes scallops, but I haven’t met too many people who are opposed to them when they are wrapped in America’s favorite breakfast food.

3. Zucchini Fries

This snack is a healthier and more refreshing alternative to french fries. You’ll want to begin by slicing the zucchini into strips about the length of a typical french fry. Then you’re going to want to dip the slices into eggs, then afterward into a mixture of breadcrumbs. It’s up to you whether or not to add garlic to the mix or other spices. Once this is done let them bake in the oven for about 30 minutes, and behold…the crispy and tasty appetizer you’ve been searching for!

4. Barbecue Chicken and Pineapple Kabobs

Kabobs are a classic summer appetizer, but their success depends on the right combination of meat and fruit/vegetables. A pairing that blends together seamlessly is barbecue chicken and pineapple. The sweetness of the barbecue compliments nicely with the sweet and tart nature of the pineapple and the contrast in texture of the chicken in the fruit works nicely as well. You’re going to want to fire up the grill and cook these on medium for no more than 15 minutes.

But if you’re looking for a staple lettuce wrap, a mixture filled with grilled chicken cheese topped off with a dab of sour cream is bound to be a crowd pleaser. The dish is fairly easy to prepare, with the only preparation being the chicken and chopping the lettuce. So get to stuffing those wraps to kick off your labor day weekend right!
