Easy And Healthy Snacks For Your Next Road Trip

Spring has sprung, and pretty soon, summer will be here! So it’s perfectly evident that with the changing of the seasons, you’ll be taking more road trips! Road trips are the best way to get away from your own little world and go explore somewhere new, and whether you’re going by yourself, with a significant other, or your friends, one thing is for sure… you’ll have to eat! Spending money on the road can get expensive, and most of the time the food isn’t that great, and it’s definitely not great for you. So here are some healthy snacks to consider for your next road trip!

1. Hummus and Veggies

Hummus is probably one of the best healthy snacks out there for you, and it’s easy to travel with! With so many options and flavors of this delicious protein-filled snack, there’s no way you won’t be able to find one that leaves you satisfied. Hummus is delicious, creamy, good for you, and it’ll be sure to keep you full for those long hours on the road that is ahead of you! Pack your favorite flavor of hummus for your next road trip along with your favorite veggies for a yummy snack that you won’t regret like those fries you’d typically go after. So prep a bag of vegetables such as carrots, celery, peppers, cucumbers, or broccoli and have them ready to dive into that delicious hummus the next time you’re on the road.

2. Miniature Roll-Ups

Healthy snacks don’t just have to mean raw veggies! These mini roll-ups are an excellent option for a road trip snack because they’re easy to make, customizable, and perfect to eat with one hand on the wheel! Load these babies up with whatever your heart desires and cut them to the perfect size so you can enjoy them on the go. Some great options for these are a simple turkey and cheese combination which will be an easy way to hit your protein intake so that you feel satisfied while you’re stuck on the road in that traffic jam. But the great thing about these is that you can customize them however you’d like so if you don’t eat meat just make a cheese and veggie roll-up! Or load them up with plant-based protein such as hummus or avocado. There’s no wrong way to make these, and either way, you’ll be happy.

3. Apples and Peanut Butter

Talk about a classic! It doesn’t get any easier than this go-to staple food. After all, you’ve been eating it since you were little and for a good reason! Apples and peanut butter are one of the greatest healthy snacks because they’re not only good for you, and packed with protein, but they’re also the easiest snack you could possibly prepare for a road trip. While the classic way to eat this snack would be to dip apple slices into your favorite peanut butter, an easier way to go about this staple is to slice your apple into thin rounds and assemble them with peanut butter ahead of time. That way, all you have to do on the road is grab one and dive in! If peanut butter isn’t your thing, you can try almond butter instead, but either way, this snack is totally delicious.

Granola is one of the best options for healthy snacks out there, and lucky for you it’s completely customizable to your taste preferences! Store bought granola can be difficult when you don’t know exactly what it contains, and most of the time it’s full of extra sugar that you don’t want! After all, the last thing you want is to crash from a sugar rush in the middle of your long drive. So make yourself a batch of your own granola to pack with you to get you through those long hours on the road! Start with oats, and add in whatever your heart desires, from dried fruit to pumpkin seeds, your options are endless, and this snack will be sure to get you through your road trip.

5. Make-Ahead Energy Balls

These energy balls are perfect for one of your healthy snacks to pack because they’re full of everything you need to keep you awake and energized while on the road. Load these treats up with peanut butter, cacao, coconut, etc. and pack them for an easy snack to munch on when you get hungry but can’t bother to pull off the highway.
