15 Easy And Cute Summer Hairstyles That’ll Prevent Neck Sweat

It’s finally starting to feel like summer! We all love it at first, but once it’s 100 degrees and we’re swimming in our own sweat it’s suddenly not so fun anymore. But, I have a few ideas that could help with the sweat issue this summer. While I can’t control how hot and humid the weather gets, I can help you beat the heat while still looking cute. Yes, you guessed it – I’m giving you ideas for cute summer hairstyles that will keep your hair off your neck and prevent neck sweat. Hey, it’s a start, right?

1. Messy Bun

This is a hairstyle that we all know and love, and for good reason. It’s so easy, yet looks so cute. It can also be worn in many different ways to spice it up a bit. For example, adding something as simple as a braid somewhere into your messy bun (the front, the back, wrapped around, etc.) can add so much to such an effortlessly flawless look.

2. Ponytail

This is another staple hairstyle, but like the messy bun, it has so many different variations. Adding a braid down the center, a bandana, or simply wrapping hair around your hair tie to hide it can instantly add style to your ponytail.

3. Fishtail Braid

The fishtail braid looks so cute and is so easy to create. Simply gather your hair to the side, split it into two sections, take a small piece from the right section and cross it over to the left, vice versa, and just continue that all the way down your hair. Being that it is a side swept braid, it’ll keep your hair off your neck. But, if you want it even more off your neck, you can twist it up into a low bun for a cute, textured bun look.

4. Space Buns

Some people love this look and some people don’t. But if you’re one of those people who love it, there’s a way you can spice them up. By simply adding a Dutch braid up the back of each side and then twisting a bun on top it will add so much more style to an already trendy look. It can be difficult to do on your own the first few times you try it, so have someone help you if you can. Otherwise, just practice, practice, practice. You’ll get the hang of it sooner than you may think.

5. Dorothy Braids

This is another cute hairstyle that can easily be achieved. Simply divide your hair down the middle to split it off into two sections and French braid each section. To do this, just take a small section of hair near the top of your head, divide it into three sections, cross the pieces over the middle as you would a normal braid, and just keep picking up hair to add in as you cross over the middle. You can either braid all the way down your hair, or if your hair is long enough you can stop the braid at the bottom of your ear and ponytail it off so you have cute braided pig tails.

6. Milk Maid

This is another hairstyle that includes braids. It is simpler than it looks, though, so don’t worry. Simply part your hair down the middle, diving it into two sections, create a regular braid on each side, then simply lift each braid up and over your head and pin it on the other side, crossing each braid over the other on the top of your head. Once your done, you can also pull out some pieces in the front for a messier look.

7. Sock Bun

This hairstyle is the messy bun’s neater sister. This style is achieved using either a rolled up sock (you will need to cut it so both sides have a hole) or a hair donut. Simply pull your hair ponytail-style through the sock or hair donut, then start rolling the hair up until it hits your head, forming a neat bun. Pin it in place, add a cute bandana, and you’re good to go!

8. Side Ponytail

This is great for those who don’t want to wear a high pony, but also still want their hair off their neck. A braid in the front or on the side leading into the ponytail would be a great addition to this hairstyle. You can also wrap hair around the hair tie to hide it and/or braid the ponytail to add a little texture.

9. Hair Bow

This hairstyle is a little more intricate, but still fairly simple. It can be done either half up or all up, which is ideal for getting the hair off your neck on hot summer days.

To achieve this look, gather your hair up into a ponytail, but on the last loop, only pull it half way through instead of all the way as you would do for a typical ponytail. Next, find the center of the bun and pull the two sides down. Then, bring the tail of the ponytail through the middle of the bun that you just created and pin it in the back of the head. Lastly, bring what’s left of the tail into the two buns to hide it. Fan the buns out a little to make them bigger and secure them at the bottom with a bobby pin. And there you have it! A cute hair bow that will keep your neck cool on those hot days!

10. Slicked Back Ponytail

This is another way to wear a ponytail. Wearing your hair slicked back is a great way to keep the fly aways out of your face and avoid that frizzy hair feeling. It also looks super cute. To do this, gather your hair in a ponytail, spray the perimeter of your hair with water (you can go over it well gel to really slick it down), use a fine toothcomb to smooth your hair into the ponytail, and that’s it! You can then tease the ponytail to make it bigger, add some curls, straighten it, or really anything you want.

11. Slicked Back Bun

If you don’t want to feel any hair hanging down at all, you can take the previous style a step further and wrap it up into a bun. Follow all the same steps to slick the hair down, the only difference is you won’t pull the hair all the way through for a pony tail, you will stop it half way on the last loop and then mess with it to get it looking how you want until it forms a bun and then secure it with bobby pins.

12. Braided Ponytail

This hairstyle is yet another way to spice up a ponytail. You can slick it back like the last two styles if you’d like or you can just leave it as is. Just gather your hair up into a ponytail and then braid the ponytail in whichever style braid you’d like. Just a tip, once you’re done braiding, whichever braid you choose, pull on it a little to make it bigger and give your hair a thicker appearance.

13. Braided Bun

This hairstyle is similar to the previous, just in a bun instead of a ponytail. You can also choose to slick this back if you want. Just like in the last style, gather your hair up into a ponytail and braid the ponytail how you want and pull on it to make it bigger. Now instead of just leaving the braid hanging, twist it up to form a bun and pin it down as you go. This is a great way to spice up a bun, as it will add texture.

14. Side Braided Ponytail

For this hairstyle, create two or three French braid on each side of your head and secure them with an elastic that best matches your hair color. Then, tease the top of your head to add a little volume. Lastly, smooth it all back into a ponytail and wrap a piece of hair around the hair tie to hide it. This gives a nice side slicked look with the braids, but also gives some nice volume on the top so it’s not all slicked onto your head.

15. Topknot

Place your fingers about mid-eyebrow and drag them back to section of some hair in the center of your head. Split that section off into three individual sections and create three French braids. Then, gather up the rest of your hair and create a topknot. This gets all the hair off your neck and also adds a little something in the front instead of simply just creating a topknot.

Be sure to try these simple and cute summer hairstyles! You’ll be glad you did when it’s 100 degrees and everyone else is drowning in neck sweat, except for you.
