“Easy does it on the Easter eggs…” said no one ever! Be it an indoor activity to distract the kiddos, a family event, a night your creative juices are flowing, a cute date night, a religious reason, or a fun activity to do with your friends there is no greater activity to do in the name of Easter. In fact, Easter egg decorating has been an Easter tradition since at least the 13th century!
Ironically, the egg, an ancient symbol of new life, has been living the same life forever it seems. Give the egg new life with a modern, interesting and creative design that we all can enjoy. Do your egg and your Easter proud with some of these Easter egg decorating ideas that are creative and fun!
This design is fun, minimalistic, abstract, easy, and hard to mess up. First, you’ll want to blow out the yolk of your egg(s) and let them dry. They can be whatever color you like (brown or white), though white shows paint better. However, brown eggs look just as cool when splattered. Then, you’ll want to grab a bottle cap, place it upside down on a hard and flat surface, then place the egg on top. This makes for a secure place to put your egg while you unleash your inner Jackson Pollock.
Next, you’re going to want to dip your paintbrush or a toothbrush into a generous amount of one of your chosen paint colors. Make sure it’s not too much paint, though. You don’t want it to all splatter in one place (unless you do, and if that’s the case, do as you wish). From there, go to town! Hold your brush over the egg and tap or flick the paintbrush handle hard.
Like most Easter egg decorating tactics, it’ll get messy. To prevent any ruined clothes or furniture, you’ll wanna wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty.
This idea is fun because you’ll get to see which characters your friends and family choose to make! Plus, sometimes they come out so bad that it’s just hilarious and fun. Glue on googly eyes for some eggs-tra humor!
For those of you that are more into gluing on creativity as opposed to painting, this is an Easter egg decorating style that you’ll appreciate. Just dye your egg a base color, let it dry, and glue on whatever jewels you choose in whatever pattern, shape, or design you want. It’s an interesting twist to an old tradition.
These eggs are cute. Just get some glitter, glitter glue, and start designing your Easter egg. Beware of shaking off any excess glitter though, or else you’ll be finding glitter all over your house all the way through next Easter!
My obsession with this egg design runs deep. It’s unique, fun, and quirky. All you have to do is pick out the colors you like online. From there I would tape half of the egg to make sure the lines are clear and concise. Then dip the egg in the paint or dye. Once dried, write down the label like you would see on a paint swatch.
Crack the egg! The key is getting rid of the top half of the egg. This might take a couple of tries. You want to have enough space to either pour the wax into your candle (if you are planning on making it from scratch) or if you are would rather just put a tea candle in the shell, that would work too as long as there is room for you to fit it in. Once you have determined that a candle can fit and be functional in your egg, you want to let it dry. After that, color it if you wish, add your candle, and light her up!
All you need is a sharpie and you are ready to get started. You can draw a barcode, write a love letter, draw multiple faces, or do intricate patterns. The world is your oyster when you have a sharpie in hand!
This might be the most Easter-y of them all! Color your egg yellow, add some feathers on top, draw or paint on a face, use orange construction paper to make a 3D beak and they will be chirping their thank-yous. Use discarded shells for some bonus points and watch people admire your work.
This is a multifunctional easter egg if I’ve ever seen one. While you will have to be extra careful not to crack the egg when placing soil and plant inside you don’t have to be careful at first. Crack the egg like you would if you were cooking with it. Empty out the egg and then let the shell dry. Once the shell is dried you can spray paint it (the easiest option in my opinion), dye it, paint it, or leave it plain. Then just gently pack it with soil (optional) and whatever flowers or plants you like. An Easter statement, indeed!
