10 Drugstore Makeup Items That You Must Try

I am a huge makeup connoisseur. I love makeup and the ability to use your face and body as a canvas. You can express how you feel on the outside with your makeup or show off your artistic skills. I have shopped high end to low end and everything in between when it comes to trying out products and what I like best. Some great drugstore products and commonly seen brands have made their way to other retail stores such as Target and Walmart over the past several years. During my quest for great products, I found ten drugstore makeup items that you must try.

1. Fit Me Foundation by Maybelline New York

I have tried many foundations; some are high-end products people swore by. However, I have found that some of those products didn’t work for me. This one, I stumbled on and think it is fabulous. There are many shades to choose from, so finding a color that will suit you should be easy. I chose the creamy beige as I have fair skin with medium and pink undertones to my skin.  Upon trying this product, I found it was the closest matched color to my skin tone I have ever tried. It went on smoothly and with ease. The product does not feel heavy and blends well with a foundation brush. I simply used one of my foundations, IT Cosmetics brushes, and had no problem applying the product. I noticed it stayed on for quite some time and did not need a touch-up. Another thing I noticed is there was not any separation which tends to happen if you have oily skin or an oily product. I have dry patches of skin, especially around my forehead; I found applying a moisturizer before application helps smooth out my skin. The Fit Me Liquid Foundation was not cakey and did not show any flakey patches. You have the option to choose dewy and smooth or matte and poreless options. I tried the matte and poreless foundation because it is oil-free.  The best part of the foundation is it will run you a little over $5 in price if you purchase from any Target store, which is cheaper than CVS, which will cost about $7. Still, the prices are much cheaper than high-end makeup suppliers, which can run about $25-$35 on average.

2. Fit Me Powder by Maybelline New York

Like the foundation mentioned above, this powder is a great choice to add on top of your foundation or even wear on your own if you do not want to use a liquid foundation. The Powder comes in a variety of colors, much like its liquid foundation counterpart. You can choose from the matte and poreless option, or you can get a loose powder instead. The powder works on oily skin or normal skin just fine. The Fit Me Powder will control shine and lasts about 12 hours. So, applying it on top of your foundation or wearing it on its own will certainly help those who have oily skin to not have a shiny appearance, especially while you are hard at work. Like the Fit Me liquid foundation, you can expect to pay between $5 to $7 on average, depending on where you purchase the product from.

3. Lash Sensational Sky High Mascara by Maybelline

I am a fan of the Maybelline mascaras and have been for years. My favorite has always been the Falsies, but currently, I have found this mascara to be a favorite. The brush is a triangular shape and allows your lashes to be grabbed and coated from nearly every angle. The formula gives you incredible volume and length and is infused with bamboo extract and fibers. There are washable and waterproof formulas like many other mascaras on the market. Personally, I prefer waterproof. If you are a person who has teary eyes or has oily skin, or you think you will sweat or cry while wearing the product, it is a great idea to get waterproof and use a makeup remover to take it off at the end of the day. Finally, there are different shades of black and brown to choose from and give you the option to have a dramatic and bold look to a more natural flirty lash look. The Lash Sensational Sky High Mascara will cost between $9 to $11 in Target or CVS stores.

4. Epic Wear Liner Stick by NYX

Nyx cosmetics have substantially grown over the years and are found in drugstores and other retail stores such as Target and Ulta. I recently purchased a set from Ulta that contained several of the epic wear liner sticks. The colors are vibrant, highly pigmented, and go on smoothly. You can use the liners to add a pop of color on your bottom lash line, or you can add a dramatic lined look on your top lid. Either way, these liners add pizazz to your look. The liners are long-lasting and claim to last 36 hours. I did not wear my liner for that many hours, but I used mine for about 6-8 and was quite pleased with it as it did not transfer like other liners do.  You can use matte or metallic shades, and each stands out and have a great color payoff. The product claims to be smudge-proof, fade-proof, and transfer-proof. For my 6 hours of use of the product, I can vouch for the claims that it did not transfer, did not fade, and smudge. I tested the product out on my hand and showed my husband that the color did not transfer, smudge, or fade. I ran water over it, washed my hands, and it stayed put. Once I used makeup remover, the product finally lifted. I highly recommend this product for the looking for a long-lasting liner or unique colored eyeliner choices. Check out Target, Ulta, or your local CVS or Walgreens to purchase the NYX Epic Wear Liners

5. Neutrogena Makeup Cleansing Face Wipes, Individually Wrapped

Neutrogena has wipes and is commonly used to remove makeup. Many people are aware of these wipes and are used frequently. However, these new individually wrapped wipes are great for on-the-go and provide the same quality as the wipes’ large packages.  I personally like Neutrogena cleansing products and use them often. I have not experienced any harsh reactions to my sensitive skin and find the products to work well. I have used Neutrogena makeup wipes for about 7+ years now, and I find it removes the product with ease. These wipes are great, and I put them in my make-up case when I travel. I like the individual wrap wipes as you do not need to worry about other wipes drying out like they can in the larger packs of wipes. If you like the Neutrogena makeup remover wipes normally, you will love these little packets as well. Expect to pay a little over $7 for a pack of 20 individually packed wipes from CVS; you can also pay $6 for the same pack at Target. Remember, if you shop on the CVS website or app, you can find deals such as buy one get one, 40% off, or a BOGO sale.

6. Revlon Creme Eyeshadow

Cream eyeshadows have been a popular choice ever since I was a kid. I remember purchasing cream shadows at sixteen and nineteen years old when some lines promoted cream foundations, blushes, and eyeshadows. The Revlon Creme Eyeshadow offers great wearable colors to apply to your entire eyelid. There are 12 colors to choose from, and each color is considered long wear as it lasts for 24 hours. Each color you purchase will come with a pro-inspired built-in brush for easy application. As I suggest with all eyeshadow applications, put on a primer before applying the shadow. Many people will claim that cream shadows will show your wrinkles in your lids or they crease. To get the great color pay off and keeping your oily lids from having running shadow or fading shadow, it is a great idea to use a primer. Creams are great because you can apply as much or little as you want to depend on how dramatic you want the look to be. These creams are nice to try if you are considering trying out a creamer for the first time or are looking for something to make your eyes pop. Remember, you can also apply powder shadow on top or underneath. You can pick this item up for a little over $7 at your local drugstore.

7. L’Oreal Paris Infallible 24HR Eye Shadow

These eyeshadows last for about 24 hours and have intense pigmentation. The shadow is a hybrid of powder and cream, making application easy. The shadows glide right on and are waterproof and fade resistant. If you are concerned about creasing, you need not worry about this product. The combination of powder and cream has the shadow stay in place, no crease in sight. As I suggested above, you can apply a primer before applying the shadow as an extra layer of guaranteed intensity and no creasing.  Currently, there are eight shades available at CVS stores. Expect to pay a little over $9 at the store for one shadow, but keep in mind that they last on your lids for 24-hours and have an intense color payoff. Be sure to pick up one of these hybrid shadows and try it for yourself.

8. Revolution Forever Flawless Eyeshadow Palette

The first thing you need to know is that there are four types of palettes to choose from. Each has a different color theme and has 18 colors in each palette. I recently purchased one of the palettes to try out, and I was pleasantly surprised at the shades provided, the packaging detail, and of course, the application of the products. I purchased the Birds of Paradise palette, and it is chock full of vibrant rainbow colors. I have not seen some colors in other palettes or found a better hue that I would wear on my lids, depending on what look I was attempting. All palettes have buildable shadows that are strong with pigmentation and are vegan and cruelty-free.  One palette that I am in love with is called Chilled. Chilled is a green-toned palette that is infused with cannabis Sativa seed oil. This oil comes from hemp seeds and is known to be used for food and beauty products. It is important to know that cannabis Sativa seed oil is 90% omega fatty acids and is known in beauty products because of its antioxidants and, most commonly, hydrating properties. So, when applying products that have cannabis Sativa seed oil, expect it to nourish your skin and provide hydration.  Be sure to check out this palette and the other 3 palettes available. Keep in mind the Chilled palette is the only one infused with the cannabis Sativa seed oil. Purchase this palette for $18 at your local CVS or at Ulta and Target for $16.

9.  Maybelline Baby Lips Moisturizing Lip Balm

I have used an abundance of lip balms and chapstick in my life. I have drawers filled with lip products and balms. Currently one of the most moisturizing lip balms I have used is the Baby Lips. Baby Lips is very soft and there are a few color choices that will leave a light wash of color over your lips. However, the one I prefer is a clear shade and leaves a small trace of gloss to the lips. The claim of the lip balm is to have smooth lips, less dryness, better appearance, and it is supposed to hydrate up to 8-hours. Personally, I don’t know any balms that last that long, and often when you eat and drink it will come off. However, this formula is absorbed into the skin quite nicely and does leave your lips feeling softer. I reapply throughout the day like I do with most balms. It is also a great idea to use this balm after you use a lip scrub and before you apply lipstick. It is a great prep for your lips or to wear on its own. You can purchase these balms for under $5 at a CVS or find them at a Target store.

10. NYX Powder Puff Lippie Powder Lip Cream

If you like lip stains and a nice wash of colors over your lips you will like this lip cream. It is a tube that has a cushiony applicator. The product goes onto the lips with a mousse-like texture and it sets as a powdery finish. There are eight shades to choose from ranging from peach, red, and dark plum colors. If you are looking for something that does not have a glossy finish and resembles lipstick, you will love this product.  You can find this and other NYX products at CVS, Walgreens, Target, and Ulta.  Be sure to check out the NYX Powder Puff Lippie Powder Lip Cream available, you won’t be disappointed.

Beauty doesn’t have to cost more than you can afford, it also can be found in places that you frequently visit. Remember actress Sophia Loren said, “nothing makes a woman more beautiful than the belief that she is beautiful.”
