10 Dream Houses Around The World You Need To See

Many people like to imagine their perfect dream house, especially when they’re living in a cramped dorm room or apartment. From a cozy Dutch houseboat to a sprawling mansion California mansion, there is so much interesting architecture to admire! Here’s a selection of our favorite dream homes from around the world.

1. Falling Water, Pennsylvania

Frank Lloyd Wright designed this home in 1935 as a weekend getaway for the Kaufman family. Although Wright is considered America’s most famous architect, this work helped revitalize his then dwindling career. The house welcomes thousands of visitors each year.

2. Mirante House, Brazil

This modernist, open-plan home boasts an indoor atrium that stretches up through all three stories. The pool on the second floor is intersected by a board-walk like, L-shaped deck that looks onto the nearby lake.

3. Hearst Castle, California

You might recognize Hearst Castle from Lady Gaga’s music video G.U.Y.

The castle is over 90,000 square feet and is considered a National Historical Landmark. It was designed by Julia Morgan in 1919 for William R. Hearst, a wealthy newspaper magnate, who used the mansion to host parties for the Hollywood and political elite.

The main estate is used as a museum, but the Hearst family continues to use a Victorian house on the property as a retreat.

4. Bamboo Treehouse, Bali

This six-story house, nicknamed Sharma Springs, is completely handmade. The architect, Elora Hardy, grew up in Bali and studied fine arts in the United States. The majority of the building materials are bamboo, as she intended for the structure to be in harmony with its natural surroundings. The lucky residents enjoy a view of palm trees and distant volcanoes from the higher floors.

5. Hameau de la Reine, France

French for “The Queen’s Hamlet” this idyllic, pastoral home was commissioned by Marie Antoinette as a private retreat. Here, she and her friends could escape from the restrictive, scrutinizing atmosphere of Versailles. It originally contained a meadow, lakes and streams, and a miniature island lush with flowers.

6. Nautilus House, Mexico

Located near Mexico City, this whimsical home was designed by Javier Senosiain, a celebrated Mexican architect. This home is an example of what he calls “Bio-Architecture”, the idea that buildings based on organic designs help us to be more in tune with the natural world.

7. Amsterdam Houseboat

This home is more quaint than others on our list, but that doesn’t make it any less appealing. What better place to stay in Amsterdam than a charming houseboat? Airbnb guests can relax in the garden patio/ dining room or in front of the indoor fireplace, perfect for chilly Netherland winters.

8. The Gates Estate, Washington

The home of Bill and Melinda Gates, nicknamed Xandu 2.0 in reference to Citizen Kane, boasts 6 kitchens, 24 bathrooms, 7 bedrooms, and multiple garages, one of which is underground. There’s also a trampoline room, a stunning 2,100 square foot library with dome ceiling and secret bookcase doors, and an elevator, in case you don’t want to take the 84-step Grand Staircase.

9. The Wallich Residence, Singapore

This luxury residence offers 181 homes, four bedroom units, and four penthouse apartments, and  one “Super Penthouse”; a triplex on the 62nd to 64th floors. All residents are encouraged to take advantage of amenities such as the infinity pool, private library, and observation platforms.

10. Tropical Warehouse Villa, Bali

This gorgeous house is available for only $250 a night on Airbnb! Complete with four bathrooms, and four air-conditioned bedrooms and yoga/meditation room, it can welcome up to eight guests. Watch out though, the home is located next to a rowdy rock bar.
