Finally moved into your new dorm but feeling like there’s something missing? Are the solid white walls starting to drive you insane? Here are some tips on making your dorm a tad more homely.
Got a favorite band, movie, or game that’s always on your mind? Why not let your future guest know about your obsession by plastering your wall with countless posters! If you’re really feeling extra, you can even frame your posters to add a pinch of class to that Migos poster. Not only will adding posters to your room show off your personality, but it’ll also reinforce your identity. There’s nothing like being greeted by iconic images of the things you love after a long day of class.
Is the dim lightening of your room starting to mess with your sanity? Go out and buy some colorful lights to add any atmosphere to your living space! Whether you purchase a fancy lamp with wild colors or some Christmas lights, your room is guaranteed to feel less like a prison cell.
Is the cold wooden chair provided by your dorm ruining your spine? Comfort your poor spine by purchasing a bean bag chair! These lightweight/fairly inexpensive chairs are seemingly made for dorm use. From reading, watching movies, and playing games, these chairs will always support your leisurely activities.
Feeling homesick/lonely? Hangup your favorite family photos to remind yourself of your loved ones back home! You’ll be inspired to achieve greatness every time you glance at their faces and they’ll remind you why you’re working so hard. But don’t stop at only adding their photos, continue to add to your collection by including pictures of all the recent friends you’ve made. Doing this will help you realize how important you are to the people in your life. And yes, add the really embarrassing photos.
Need even more color on your walls? Get yourself some fancy tapestry to cover your walls. Maybe all your room needed was some psychedelic patterns to enhance its vibe. How about some abstract artwork of an elephant or another symbolic creature to living up your room. Whatever your taste, a huge fancy piece of fabric will surely give you some style points.
Wanna impress your guest by seeming cultured and well-versed in art? Embrace your inner hipster by hanging up some prestigious artwork! Even if you don’t know the artist or their intentions behind the piece, you’ll still gain some form of clout by simply hanging the painting up. Just don’t invite any art majors over unless you wanna risk being called out for not knowing what the hell is on your wall. Then again, I do listen to music in other languages and enjoy media that I’m not necessarily %100 familiar with, so who am I to judge?
Since most dorms don’t allow dogs or cats on campus, you’ll have to settle for the next best thing; fish! While you can’t exactly pet and play with your aquatic friends, you’ll get the satisfaction of taking care of another living creature. I’ve never personally owned any fish but I’ll assume that their fairly low maintenance compared to dogs and cats. Not only that but you can get you can get a variety of colors and types of fish to add even more spice to your room.
Need someone or something to cuddle with at night? Kidnap a couple of stuffed creatures and keep them hostage in your room! So what if you’re entering your twenties? If you wanna sleep with a giant teddy bear then goddamnit…you sleep with a giant teddy bear! Not only that but adding some stuffed animals to your dorm will give off cuddly vibes to all of your guests.
