Dorm Electronics Everyone Needs To Have

Dorm electronics are essential if you are planning on moving out and going away to college. Sometimes dorm rooms aren’t equipped with everything you’re going to need throughout the course of the school year, so it’s important to prepare ahead of time. Scroll down and read about these must-have dorm electronics that are sure to spruce up your dorm room!

2. Roku TV

You’re going to have some downtime in between your classes and extracurriculars, and of course, you’re going to want to be caught up on all of your favorite shows! Roku TVs are great because they have all of the streaming apps you probably already have subscriptions to, like Netflix, Hulu, and Disney+. So, get cozy and have those movie nights with your bestie in your dorm room. Just don’t forget the popcorn!

3. Microwave

Check out your dorm room first. Some of them come with a full kitchen, but some don’t. Or, maybe there’s just one community microwave that 20 people share, and you can already see last year’s spaghetti permanently splattered within. Regardless, it might be nice to have your own microwave, that’s CLEAN.

In my dorm room, I set it up on top of the mini-fridge and made a tiny kitchen station, so get creative if you don’t have much space. Trust me, those midnight Cup Noodles will thank you for having a microwave.

4. Mini-Fridge

Similar to the microwave, make sure your dorm doesn’t already have a kitchen area. If you don’t have a fridge, then this is an absolute must-have! Think of all the leftovers you can store, or all of the beers you can keep cold! Also, I recommend coordinating with your roommates and make sure all 3 of you don’t show up with a mini-fridge (yep, it’s happened)!

These speakers come in all sorts of sizes and colors, so get one that you really like. Usually, they are just bigger than your hand, making them easy to transport, and they fit in your backpack nicely.

8. Printer

Purchasing a printer might be the best investment you make when it comes to dorm electronics. I can’t tell you how many times my friends forgot to print out their essays and waited until the last minute. Minutes before their class started, they scrambled in the library line, made it to the front, pressed print, and much to their horror, realized they were out of money on their account.

Save yourself all of the stress and travel time library printers cause, and just get yourself a printer. Especially if you are obtaining a Bachelors of Art, you definitely need your own printer.

9. Lamp

Let there be light! Most dorm rooms don’t come with lamps, so you’ll probably need to get one. Find out if you can get away with just having a desk lamp, but sometimes, you might need a couple room lamps too. Again, coordinate with your roommates and see what they’re bringing.

10. Surge Protector

Many students forget about this essential dorm electronic. Between your TV, phone charger, lamp plugs, and other devices, one tiny outlet simply won’t do. You 100% need this dorm electronic if you want all of your other electronics to stay charged! Just make sure there’s enough space between the different plugs, so, you know, you don’t start a campus fire!

11. Neon Lights

I saved the best item for last! Bring some color into your dorm room with these Neon Lights! At night, they’ll create a cozy ambiance, and when you have those crazy party nights, they’ll definitely set the mood!

Almost every dorm room I’ve ever been in has some variation of these lights. You can string them across your bed, below the countertop, or along the ceiling. I recommend getting the lights that change colors. I don’t know, some nights you might be feeling like a spunky pink, and other nights, maybe you want a mellow yellow.
