8 Dolly Parton Lessons That We Could All Learn From

To many of us, Dolly Parton is someone we truly aspire to become. She’s been through her own fair share of lessons, but that is how she has become so wise in her words. Dolly is an American singer, songwriter, businesswoman, producer, humanitarian, and has much more amazing abilities and talents up her sleeve. Without her, the world truly wouldn’t be the same! Here are 8 lessons from Dolly Parton that we could all learn from!

1. “I’ve had heartaches, headaches, toothaches, earaches, and I’ve had a few pains in the ass, but I survived to tell them all.”

Dolly has truly gone through her own fair share of ups and downs but she tells us that we all do. It doesn’t matter who you are, it’s simply a part of life. Some lessons we learn can be a lot harder than the next, but it’s how you come out of them that tells about your character of who you are.

Lessons are here to make us stronger, even if we think they are beneficial or not. It’s about the way we learn from them. It’s about becoming a better version of yourself no matter the circumstance. We all have the capability to get through any pain because we wouldn’t have been sent the challenge in the first place if we weren’t able to handle it.

2. “Storms make trees take deeper roots.”

The lesson behind this saying is that you can’t become the strong person you want to see yourself as if you don’t go through the struggle of it first. The reason trees grow strong deep roots is because they are tested constantly by mother nature’s wind, rain, and snow. They have to grow stronger and deeper to make sure they are stable in the ground so they don’t fall over. That is why a tree can stand so tall, it’s rooted were trained to go deeper from the circumstances it was put it.

Dolly relates this to people. She means that we are just like trees. We grow to stand strong, but we can’t if we don’t go through some tough times first. The best way to become a strong independent person is by going out in life and experiencing what the world has to offer. Find your dreams and passions and go learn to experience them. Failing is apart of life, but if you become more okay with that idea, then the strength of you will soon come.

3. “I’m not going to limit myself just because people won’t accept the fact that I can do something else.”

There will people in life that will say that you can’t do what is in your heart. Dolly lets us know that the lesson she learned was that, she can do whatever she wants to do in life and no one is going to stop her! Based on how people grow up, there is a certain level of security and “knowing” of what they think is right for those around them. That’s not always the right answer to go by. If you want to become something different from what the people around you say, then do it! Of course, there will be a trade-off, but your heart will love you more for following your dreams.

4. “If you don’t like the road you’re walking on, start paving a new one.”

The most amazing thing about life is that we get to choose what we want to do in life. If you feel you are going down a road that wasn’t made for you, then you can change it. You can pick up and go in a different direction and that’s that! Your life is yours and yours only, believe in that and go for what you really want out of life!

5. “Find out who you are. Do it on purpose.”

As people, we forget it’s important to learn who we are and do it on purpose! Dolly teaches a lesson here about finding ourselves and being comfortable with that. Everyone is trying to figure out the same thing. What is our purpose in this world!

Take the time to go try new things such as a new sport, painting, singing, writing, math, dancing, anything! Try all that you can and see what you love. See what you are good at and what makes you happy! Figuring out life is just darn right hard, but it becomes easier the more you try.

6. “Don’t get so busy making a living that you forget to make a life.”

Once you find what you are good at, or can make some money at don’t become the workaholic we all dread to become. Don’t get us wrong, it is amazing to fall in love with the work you do and making a name for yourself, but when you are so consumed by that life and not the rest, don’t you think there’s possibly something missing?

7. “The way I see it, if you want the rainbow, you have to put up with the rain.”

Dolly reminds us of the lesson that to get more out of life you have to put in the hard work. Nothing comes easy, but it sure is beautiful! You can’t expect to get anywhere in life if you don’t spend the time working hard for it. Sitting around and waiting for dreams to come true, never just happens. There is always some type of action that was taken and it was never an easy road either! The most beautiful thing about working hard is that, no matter what there is always an outcome way more beautiful than ever expected.

8. “Being a star just means that you just find your own special place and that you shine where you are!”

Finding who you are is meant to take a long time. Dolly tells us that the only reason she has become a star is that she found out what she loves and what she is great at and amplified it. She worked hard, but loved working hard and found herself sharing the light that was always within her.
