10 DIY Wooden Pumpkin Ideas You’ll Love For Fall

Fall is my favorite season– pumpkin spice lattes, changing leaves, chunky sweaters, and the cutest decorations. Fall is quickly approaching, and it’s time you get inspired to decorate your home for the season! Pumpkins are the name, wood is the game, and these 10 wooden pumpkin DIY decor ideas are easy, affordable, and perfect for fall. Check it out!

1. Tree Slice Pumpkins

These tree slice pumpkins are so easy to DIY and super easy to personalize based on your style. All you’ll need is a wood slice (or a few!) in a size of your choosing, which you can get at your local craft store or on Amazon, a thick stick for the stem, faux leaves or a ribbon to tie at the top, and paints in the colors of your choice. If you’re going for a more earthy, rustic look, try chalkboard paint and write a word or quote in calligraphy using chalk or chalk paint. If you want something more traditional and bright, go for an orange base and spice it up with white or black patterns. This DIY wooden pumpkin decoration is so fun and really leaves you with a lot of room to experiment! So get inspired and get painting!

2. Pallet Pumpkins

Now this DIY wooden pumpkin decoration takes a little more work, but the results are totally worth it. Create your own pumpkin decoration perfect for your front porch or yard out of old wooden pallets! Start with a full-size wooden shipping pallet, and draw lines in the shape of your pumpkin to mark where you will use a table saw to cut. Then, saw along the line and cut out your pumpkin. Next, sand down the edges to make sure they’re smooth and splinter-free, and get to painting. For a more distressed look, try a wood-stain with an orange hue, or go straight for the paint in your favorite shade of orange. Add some faux leaves or ivy to the top with a strong glue, and you’re done!

3. Craft Scrap Pumpkins

If you’re crafty and feel like you always have scraps of things laying around the house, this DIY wooden pumpkin decoration is for you. Grab a few different sizes of wooden blocks, empty spools of thread, twine, and any washi tape or little decorations you have laying around (buttons are great too)! Paint your wooden blocks in any color you desire– doesn’t have to be orange! Try different tones of blue for a softer look. Then, paint your spools black and attach with a strong glue to the top of your blocks to serve as the stems. Add any washi tape, buttons, or other decorations you wish to the face of the pumpkins, wrap your twine around the “stem,” and you’re done! Repurposing and recycling otherwise useless scraps is so fun, and often creates the best results!

4. Painted Pumpkins

This one requires some creativity and a little patience, but produces amazing end results. For this DIY wooden pumpkin decoration you’ll need a large piece of plywood, a table saw, paints, ribbon or a bow, and strong glue. First, draw out the shape in which you want to cut your pumpkin. Then, use your table saw to cut along your marked line. Make sure to sand down the edges to eliminate splinters and create a smooth surface. Then, use your paints and get creative– paint your pumpkin a solid orange and use white paint to write a word or two, or go for an abstract look and paint different shapes in different colors over the face of your pumpkin. This part is entirely up to you– have fun with it! Add your bow or ribbon to the top as a finishing touch, and you have yourself an adorable personalized fall decoration.

5. Jack-O-Lantern Pallet Pumpkins

How cute are these DIY wooden jack-o-lanterns?! All you’ll need for this project is several different sizes of plywood, a table saw, wood glue, a stick for the stem, and paint. Start by drawing with pencil the shapes for the jack-o-lantern and cut out with your table saw, sanding the edges once cut. Then paint your pieces of plywood and let dry. Once the paint has dried, glue three longer pieces of plywood to a square base, leaving the back open for a candle or light. Glue another square piece of wood to the top, adding your stem and any other finishing touches. Set on your front porch with fairy lights or a candle inside to light up your jack-o-lantern. This DIY wooden pumpkin decoration is so cute and absolutely perfect for spooky-season.

6. Log Pumpkins

This DIY wooden pumpkin decoration only requires 5 materials: a wooden log/stump, paint, a smaller stick or log for the stem, twine, and wood glue. That’s it! Start by painting your log to be the body of the pumpkin, and once dry, attach your stem using the wood glue. Tie a bow around the stem using your twine, and you’re done! This project is so easy and produces the perfect addition to your home or front porch fall decor.

7. Stacked Pumpkins

Perfect for tabletop decor or your fireplace mantel, this DIY wooden pumpkin decoration is super easy and fun to recreate. Collect various sizes of plywood and start stacking them on top of one another, securing in place with wood glue. Paint in your desired color, and add a stick for the stem. You now have a rustic home accent that is perfect for the season!

If you’ve got a fireplace, then you most likely already have everything you need for this DIY wooden pumpkin decoration. Take three pieces of firewood and spray paint them orange. Attach wooden stems using wood glue and bundle the firewood together using twine. And that’s it! This DIY project is so easy and effortless, yet creates an adorable earthy home accent.

9. Triangle Cut Out Pumpkins

Switch up the shapes with some triangle wood cutouts to make these adorable little pumpkins! Paint the triangle pieces in different patterns and arrange them in a circle, securing in place with wood glue. Add a stem and you’ve got a unique piece of fall decor.

10. Farmhouse Pumpkins

Last but not least, we have a farmhouse inspired cozy fall fabric pumpkin accent. For this project you’ll need a piece of plywood, beige linen fabric, white knit fabric, a wooden knob, and twine. Start by cutting your plywood into the shape of a pumpkin, then, using a strong glue or a staple gun, attach a piece of linen fabric in the shape of the pumpkin cutout to the wood itself. Then, leaving a 1 inch border to reveal the linen fabric, repeat this step with the knit fabric and attach on top of the linen. Use a decorative chest knob as the stem, and tie some twine around for a finishing touch. And you’re done!
