Scarves are always a great accessory to help add a pop of color or fun to any outfit. It may be a little warm now, but in the fall you’ll be happy to have this t-shirt scarf when the winds start blowing. This is a really simple DIY that involves no sewing! All you need is an old t-shirt (or a few), and fabric scissors! You can also add decorations if you’d like, but the scarf also looks great without them. The bigger and wider the t-shirt is, the longer your scarf will be, so keep that in mind when you choose a shirt.
First you’ll cut off the hem of the t-shirt, and then cut off the top, right under the armpits.
Fold what’s left in half, so that the seams on the side of the t-shirt meet each other. That way, each strip will only have on seam to cover up.
Then cut it into strips. Each one should be about an inch to an inch and a half wide, but again you can decide how you want your scarf to look. Just remember that the strips will get thinner during the process, so you don’t want to make them too skinny.
Once cut, stretch your strips. They’ll start to curl, which is what you are looking for.
Line them up so all the seams are together.
To hide the seam and hold the scarf together, tie an extra piece of t-shirt around the seams to make a knot. If you want a more decorative scarf you can also use leather, ribbon, or something else for this step.
And that’s your scarf! Like I said, you can glue on decorations if you’d like. Another way to add some flair is to make scarves with two different color t-shirts, or you can add some braided t-shirt strands by simply braiding them together. Here is also a tutorial from Wikihow on how to make a braided t-shirt scarf.
