DIY Ribbon Headband
Tired of wearing the same old ponytail or bun every day? A small, easy way to spice up your look is to add in a headband! And these ribbon headbands aren’t too hard to make, and you can make so many different ones, using different styles of ribbon. Your local hobby store like Michaels or Hobby Lobby will totally have ribbon at low prices, and you’ll be able to find your braided elastic there too, to make these headband ways more affordable than buying any from a store. Plus they’re comfy, so you won’t have to worry about the dreaded headband headache.
Materials:
- Ribbon
- Scissors
- Braided elastic (less wide than ribbon)
- Needle and matching thread
First, measure the ribbon around your head.
Next, you’ll cut the ribbon, but make sure to minus 2 inches from what you measured, as that will be where the elastic goes.
Cut off 2 inches of elastic. Your ribbon should be wider than your elastic band.
Overlap the ribbon and the elastic, by half to a quarter of an inch, and do a couple stitches to the center to hold it in place.
Whip stitch (instructions here if you need them) over the top edge of the ribbon to secure it.
Now continue to do this whip stitch down both sides, making sure that your stitches are wrapping the ribbon around the hair elastic.
Once you’re finished, re-thread your needle and wrap your stitches. Every third one you should stitch through the elastic and ribbon.
Repeat on the other side, and you’re finished!
