7 DIY Projects For Fall You’re Going To Adore

Fall is a cozy time, and with cozy times comes an increased amount of time spent indoors. To keep from getting bored, try out these 7 DIY projects for fall that you’re sure to absolutely love.

1. Hand-knit blanket

Grab some super chunky yarn and try your hand at hand-knitting! This involves using your arms, a clean work space, and a lot of really thick yarn to knit a blanket into creation. It’s also much less time-intensive than knitting a blanket with knitting needles, and it’s perfect for snuggling into with a good book (or a significant other) when the weather gets chillier! Be sure to watch a few video tutorials before you begin so you can get the hang of it.

2. Sugar scrub

Everyone’s skin starts getting drier in the autumn months, so it’s nice to have a good exfoliator on hand. It’s even better when you can make it yourself! To make a sugar scrub, all you need is 1 cup of sugar, 1/2 cup of oil (coconut or olive are some of the best), essential oils of your choice, and a container to put the mixture in. Use it in the shower and rinse off and have your skin feeling super smooth in no time.

3. Candle

There are so many DIY candle recipes on the internet that it’s simple to find one with a smell you’ll love. Many of them have the same basic components, though: unscented soy wax, wick rope, a wick tab (or just buy a preassembled wick that has the rope and tab attached), your preferred candle scent, and a non-plastic container for the candle. You melt the wax using a double boiler system, then let it cool and add the fragrance, set up the wick in your container, pour the wax in, and let it harden while keeping the wick upright in the correct spot.

4. String light jar

Possibly the easiest on this list, making a jar full of string lights is nonetheless a great DIY for the fall when the days start getting shorter and it gets dark earlier. All you need to do is put a coil of string lights in a glass jar, and when it’s dark in your home, turn on the lights! Super simple but really aesthetically pleasing. You can also decorate the jar to make it a bit more personalized, but it looks great either way.

5. Stencil-detailed mug

In the fall, hot beverages make a reappearance and so do mugs. Make some personalized mugs by using stencils to neatly draw letters, shapes, or designs onto your mug with oil-based permanent markers. After your mug is designed, let it dry, then put it in the oven and turn on the oven to bake it, leaving the mug in the oven even as the oven cools down.

6. Microwaveable hand warmer

If your hands get cold super easily, then this is the DIY project for you. Get two 3.5 inch squares of fabric and place the patterned sides together. Sew along the sides, leaving some seam allowance (space between the stitches and the edge of the fabric) and leaving a 2 inch space on one side. Turn the hand warmer inside out using that hole and funnel 3 tablespoons of rice into the hand warmer. Close off the hole and make sure the seam is super secure, and there you have it! Your very own hand warmer. Stick it in the microwave for 20 seconds and it’ll heat you right up.

7. Lip scrub

Make sure your lips are kissably smooth with this brown sugar lip scrub! Mix 1 tablespoon of brown sugar, 1 teaspoon of honey, and 1 teaspoon of olive oil, then massage the mixture into your lips and wash it off. Follow up with some lip balm and revel in smooth, moisturized lips.
