The Easy DIY Pink Drink Recipe You Have To Try

The pink drink craze has been around for a couple years from brightly colored smoothies to cocktails colored pink. While Starbucks’ Pink Drink may be an aesthetically pleasing and equally tasty drink, it can also leave a dent in your wallet. However, you can make your own quick DIY pink drink with less than 100 calories for a fraction of the price! Here is an easy recipe to keep you refreshed this summer.

Ingredients

You want to start making your pink drink with passion tea and the Tazo brand is an inexpensive option. You can also make over 20 servings with just one box! If you want to opt for a different tea, then any berry or acai flavored tea with a red tint will work well. This Tazo tea is decaffeinated, but if you’re looking for more of a caffeine boost then there are plenty of similar teas available that contain green tea!

Buy some coconut milk – regular, unsweetened coconut milk works well for this simple recipe and is only around 60 calories per cup. Almond milk, or really any other type of milk that you prefer, can also work as a good alternative if you don’t want the coconut!

Next buy some freeze-dried strawberries, which you should be able to find in small packs at your local grocery store! If you have difficulty finding them, then fresh sliced strawberries also work as a great garnish. If you’re feeling creative, feel free to mix and match a few other berries for an extra touch of flavor and color.

Don’t forget to have ice cubes available to cool your drink! In addition, agave nectar or honey and fresh lemon juice are optional ingredients to help enhance flavor. These ingredients should all be easy to find and are also considerably healthier than the various elements in the actual Starbucks Pink Drink!

Recipe:

  1. Prepare the tea by filling a cup approximately a fourth of the way with boiling water. Then steep one tea bag in the water for five minutes. The result should be a concentrated amount of deep red fruity tea, which will start the process of your DIY pink drink.
  2. While the tea is still hot, add in some honey or agave nectar for natural sweetening. If you prefer your drink to be a bit more tart, then feel free to skip out on this step. One tablespoon of either honey or agave nectar is around 60 calories but you probably won’t even need that much as a small amount goes a long way.
  3. Lightly squeeze a slice of lemon, or around two teaspoons of lemon juice into your tea mixture to help deepen the flavor of your drink. Another perk of making your own pink drink is that you can really customize how much of each ingredient you want to add. If you want you drink to be extra sour, then feel free to squeeze in more fresh lemon juice.
  4. Add a few slices of strawberries, along with a handful of ice cubes, and remember to leave room for coconut milk. Also, when deciding how much ice to add you should account for the fact that the ice may later dilute the flavor of the drink once it melts.
  5. Lastly, fill the cup the rest of the way with coconut milk. Once you stir, the drink should transform into a bubblegum pink color. Garnish with some more slices of strawberries to make your DIY pink drink even more Instagram-worthy! *Tip: another healthy option is to substitute coconut milk with sparkling water if you want a lower calorie option or if you’re just in the mood for a light drink. Enjoy!
