Memorial Day is nothing short of an emotional American holiday. Each year, on the last Monday of May, we dedicate a full day to remembering and honoring the fallen men and women who gave their lives to protect and serve the country they love.
In a way to show how much we love for our country and respect the sacrifice of soldiers who passed away fighting for it, we decorate around our homes, cars, and dress up with anything resembling the red, white and blue to in a way and show our patriotism. It is because of this that this day of remembering is also known as Decoration Day.
Many of us have lost someone we love to war and will be mourning and memorializing this coming Memorial day, but don’t really have an idea of how they’ll be decorating around the house or at the cemetery. Your Memorial Day decor should start with a star spangled front lawn. Purchase some red, white and blue spray paint from a local hardware store, use some large star shaped stencils and get to spraying away. If you really wanted to go full send USA, you could even spray a good ole American flag!
Do it yourself Memorial Day decor doesn’t have to be so laborious. Sometimes the simplest things can make for a quality decorations around the house, and it might not get any more simple than a red, white and blue paper chain!
All you’ll need for this is a pair of scissors, some tape and some sheets of construction paper to make some paper hoops you can link together and hang outside to make the place look a little more patriotic.
Another good idea for Memorial Day decor are some simple tin can windsocks. Coat the cans with some blue paint and let them dry before painting or sticking on some white stars. You’ll then want to poke some holes through the bottom and sneak some string through so the windsocks can be hung up later. Lastly, you’ll want to tape or glue some red and white streamers to the inside of the opening of the can so when its hanging up they’ll blow freely in the wind!

All you’ll have to do is paint on some red stripes, let the shirt naturally fill in the white stripes, and get the palm of your hand painted up nice and blue and press it down onto the cotton!
Flowers are a beautifully common Memorial Day decoration, and believe it or not, you could add even more color to the display yourself.
Give your flowers a patriotic vase to sprout from with some do-it-yourself vase decorations. To keep it cheap and simple, you can use some old jars around the house and coat them individually with the red, white and blue, or paint them however you’d like!
On Christmas, many homes decorate their front doors with a leafy green wreath. With some creativity, you can do the same for your Memorial Day decor!
Take that spray paint you used for your lawn earlier and coat some clothes pins. Next, all you’ll have to do is clip on the red, white and blue pins one by one around a circular wreath frame, and when its dry and complete stick some stars on the blue pins to complete your wooden flag!
If you have an old pallet sitting around anywhere at home, you could make yourself a star spangled wooden pallet!
Use the pallet’s slats to paint in the red and white flag stripes, and be sure to leave a square of space up in the corner for the blue and some stars!
