The winter season is fastly approaching, which means you have to do more to protect your lips from the brisk cold temperatures. These DIY lip balms will have you ready for whatever the season brings.
If you want a really simple way to make lip balm in no time then this recipe is for you. Ingredients are Kool-Aid packets or Crystal Light packets and petroleum jelly. Petroleum jelly is already a skin protector. Vitamin E helps to smooth your lips by keeping them healthy and moist. I would recommend trying the petroleum jelly with the vitamin E added to give your lips a little bit more protection this winter. All you need to do is take out some of the petroleum and mix with either a Kool-Aid or Crystal Light packet. Depending on if you choose a red color then you can get an added plus with a tint to the lip balm. You do not need to melt anything; just stir and place it into a container, and you are ready to use it. You get to decide how much of the lip balm you want to make. This DIY lip balm will allow you the options of a variety of flavors to choose from with the packets.
The lip balm uses beeswax, coconut oil, and honey. The ratio of the beeswax and coconut oil is 1:4 ratio. If you want 1 tablespoon of beeswax, you will need 4 tablespoons of coconut oil. For this lip balm, all you need to do is melt down the beeswax and the coconut oil in a pan. Then add in a 1/2 of tablespoon honey into the mixture. Be careful with the honey you do not want it to burn. Wait for the melted mixture to cool a little bit. When the liquid cools down, add it to the containers. Place in the refrigerator to harden, and you are done.
Tip: When you melt down the beeswax and coconut oil make sure it is in a glass container if you choose to use a microwave.
The lip balm requires you to use beeswax, coconut oil, shea butter, and peppermint essential oils. The beeswax, coconut oil, and shea butter need to be at a 1:1:1 ratio. You can make, however much you want to make. Just make sure that you keep the ratio the same. Whatever ratio you choose, melt all three of them down in a glass container. Once everything is melted, remove from the stove if you decide to melt that way. Then add drops of peppermint oil. Start slowly adding the drops to make you do not add too many drops. It is important not to add too much you don’t want to make you sick of the smell. Also, check the essential peppermint oil and make sure it does not need to be diluted before you put the peppermint oil in your lip balm. While it is still liquified, pour the mixture into the lip balm container. That is all you have to do.
Tip: There are other kinds of essential oils that you can use, so you do not have to limit your self to just peppermint. Each essential oil offers some sort of benefits for you. For example, lavender is known for relaxation, so if you are a person that is stress, you might want to use lavender essential oil in your lip balm. Whichever oils you use, check to see if it has to be diluted before you use it. Some essential oils can burn your skin if they’re not diluted.
If you are a person that likes or needs a tint in their lip balm, raspberry makes a great natural tint for your lips. For this lip balm, you are going to need, of course, raspberry, beeswax, and coconut oil. Frozen raspberry is better for grounding up the raspberry, but fresh ones are good as well. You need about 1/2 a tablespoon, but it all depends on how rich you want the tint to be. If you want, you can always add as much raspberry as you want. Once you have the raspberries in as fine as you can get it, then you can be processed. Then take 1 tablespoon of coconut oil and 1 teaspoon of beeswax. Meltdown the coconut oil and beeswax on the stove. Once everything is melted down, stir in the grounded raspberries. Let it cool for a few minutes, so it does not burn you if it spills it when you pour in a plastic container. Then pour the liquid mixture into the containers. Finally, close them up and place them in the refrigerator to harden.
Tip: You can either mash the raspberries by hand, but if you do not have the time, you can always use a blender to a consistent mixture. You can use a strainer to remove any excess out of the mixture. This can be used for either the natural or frozen raspberries.
Some times you might want to wear lip gloss, and you can. These lip balms can be changed into a lip gloss with Castor oil. All you need to do is add it to the mixtures after the melting process, and you have lip gloss ready for any occasion with all your favorite smells.
Tip: Do not allow the lack of a container to stop you from making your own lip balm. If you do not have an empty container to put your lip balm in, then you can find the containers at a craft store.
