DIY Hair Masks That Will Save Your Hair

DIY hair masks are more affordable than a store brand. You can grab some of these items out of the cabinet and have it in your hair in minutes. No need to go out of your way to the store. You can make you hair mask perfect for your exact needs. Some examples are for dry scalp, damaged, dry hair, frizz, etc. Remember that you do not have to use hair masks all the time. Once or twice a week will be more than enough! Below are 9 helpful, easy hair masks for you to try!

1. Coconut Oil, Sugar, and Essential Oils

Do you have an itchy scalp and feel like nothing can soothe it? This is the perfect mask for you. An itchy scalp can happen from dehydration because of the weather or allergies. It is so bad to just continuously scratch your head and very painful. Coconut oil is great for soothing an itchy scalp and reducing inflammation. Sugar scrubs the dead skin cells away. Peppermint oil adds to increase circulation. Tea tree is vital to keep the bacteria away.

Ingredients:

  • 2 drops of tea tree oil
  • 5 drops of peppermint oil
  • 4 teaspoons of sugar
  • 2 tablespoons of unrefined coconut oil

Directions:

  1. Pour all the ingredients into a bowl
  2. Put it onto your damp hair in the shower
  3. Massage into your scalp for about 2 1/2 minutes
  4. Let it sit for about 5 minutes
  5. Wash it out

2. Coffee

Coffee will wake up your hair just like you wakes you up in the morning. Maybe consider making a hair mask tomorrow morning with your leftover coffee. Fun fact: caffeine increases hair growth, avoids hair loss, improves blood flow, and cleans your scalp. 

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon of honey
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons of ground coffee

Directions:

  1. Pour the olive oil and honey to the bowl
  2. Add the coffee
  3. Mix until it is a smooth paste
  4. Put it in your clean hair
  5. Leave it in for 20 minutes
  6. Wash it out with warm water

3. Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is a great, cheap hydrator. It is publicly proclaimed a saving grace for hair. Coconut oil will heal your scalp, promote hair growth and will de-frizz your hair. These are just a few benefits. 

Ingredients:

  • Coconut oil

Directions:

  1. Apply coconut oil to your roots and the ends of your hair
  2. Wrap up your hair so it can soak overnight
  3. Wash it out in the morning
  4. Do this once every single week

4. Honey, Apple Cider Vinegar, and Coconut Oil

Give your hair a boost with this hair mask. You will notice your hair will look more shiny, fresh, and hydrated. We don’t want dull, dry hair. 

Ingredients:

  • Apple Cider Vinegar
  • Coconut oil
  • Honey

Directions:

  1. Pour ingredients into a bowl
  2. Mix them together
  3. Apply to clean damp hair
  4. Leave in for 20 minutes
  5. Wash out hair

5. Honey, Egg and Apple Cider Vinegar

If your hair is dry, dull and frizzy, this is a good option for you. It is a protein packed concoction that will transform your hair. 

Ingredients:

  • 1 teaspoon of honey
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar

Directions:

  1. Put all the ingredients in a bowl (if your hair is thicker do another half)
  2. Mix them together
  3. Apply to the lengths of your hair and somewhat in your roots
  4. Leave it in for 30 to 40 minutes
  5. Wash out with warm water

6. Avocado, Honey, and Olive Oil

If you are making avocado toast with olive oil, might as well just put some in your hair because you will get amazing benefits. It will add shine and strengthen your hair. Oh, and it will repair your scalp. 

Ingredients: 

  • 1/2 an avocado
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Juice of 1/2 of lemon
  • 1 to 3 drops of essential oils
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil

  1. Smash the avocado
  2. Mix the olive oil with avocado
  3. Apply to wet hair with your hands
  4. Pull your hair back
  5. Cover with a shower cup (if you have one)
  6. Blow dry the cap for 10 minutes to help kickstart the ingredients
  7. Leave in for 10 minutes after you finish blow-drying
  8. Wash out your hair

7. Green Tea and Apple Cider Vinegar

Green tea is amazing for several different reasons. Hair is one of them. This will make your scalp feel good and the apple cider vinegar will rebalance your pH levels. The peppermint oil  reduces inflammation and hydrates the scalp. 

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of green tea
  • 2 drops of peppermint oil
  • 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar

Directions:

  1. Add all the ingredients into one cup
  2. Mix them together
  3. Add to clean, dry hair
  4. Let it sit for 5 minutes
  5. Wash well with warm water

8. Apple Cider Vinegar

If you are looking for a simple DIY mask, this ihe one for you. This rinse is great for bringing back some shine into your hair. Apple Cider Vinegar helps to fix some breakage. After using this mask, you will notice your hair is so smooth. Many say that this mask is better than any anti-frizz serum in Sephora. 

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of apple cider vinegar
  • 1 1/2 cups of hot water
  • 2 to 4 drops of an essential oil
  • optional: 4 drops of lavender, 3 drops of lemongrass, 2 drops of tea tree, 3 drops of rosemary oil

Directions: 

  1. Pour the ingredients into a bowl
  2. Shampoo hair, then rinse
  3. Apply the bottle to towel dried hair
  4. Leave it in for 20 minutes
  5. Rinse
  6. Condition for 5 minutes

9. Coconut Oil, Mayo, and Yogurt

This mask is amazing for damaged hair after coloring.

Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons yogurt
  • 1/2 cup mayo
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil

Directions:

  1. Wash your hair with shampoo to unclog cuticle
  2. Apply to damp hair from mid length to ends (don’t touch your roots)
  3. Leave in for 50 to 60 minutes
  4. Rinse with shampoo and conditioner
