10 DIY Hair Masks For Damaged Hair

1.2These are 10 DIY hair masks for damaged hair that you can easily make at home! With so many hair masks on the market now at days, it’s easy to be hesitant about the plethora of foreign ingredients in them. These natural DIY hair masks not only give you a sanity of mind, but ensure visibly healthier looking hair after one use.

1. Egg & Mayo Hair Mask

The combination of these two is known to be a huge relief to those with dry damaged hair. It’s a classic hair mask when it comes to these DIY hair masks. It’s quick to make only involving two ingredients, and are common household ingredients you can find in your fridge.

All you need is:

-5 tablespoons of mayo

-2 raw eggs

Mayo contains the oils that are found in store-bought masks that penetrate the hair shaft to really replenish your hair. It’s ideal for dry or chemically processed hair because it coats the hair to protect from further heat-styling. The eggs are rich in protein and help to strengthen and thicken the hair. They’re great combined with the mayo because the eggs help seal in the moisture from the mayo to give a longer lasting effect. Mix the ingredients together and coat your entire head with the mask. Heat a towel up and wrap it around your head to further help along the moisture lock into your hair. After 20 minutes, rinse the mask off and shampoo your hair as normal. Do this treatment once or twice a week for healthy hair.

2. Essential Oil Mask

This hair mask is rich in oils for that brittle-thin damaged hair that spent all summer out in the sun and soaking up that pool water. Containing shea butter, Argan oil, coconut oil, and lavender essential oil this hair mask ends up being a very deep conditioning hair mask.

All you need is:

-2 tablespoons of coconut oil

-1 tablespoon shea butter

-1 teaspoon Argan oil

-few drops of lavender essential oil

Coconut oil is known worldwide for its moisturizing and nourishing properties. When combined with shea butter and Argan oil, it creates a mixture that is deeply concentrated on locking in moisture. Adding the lavender essential oil to this trio promotes hair growth, and fixes damaged hair that has been wrecked by heat-styling. Mix the ingredients together and rub it into your scalp to make sure that lavender oil is getting into the roots. Leave on for around 30 minutes, and then rinse off with cold water.

3.Avocado, Coconut Milk, and Olive Oil Hair Mask

Dry, dull hair that lacks a shine would benefit the most out of this mask. This mask is completely edible so you know that if it’s safe enough to consume it’s safe enough to go on your head. This trio is particularly useful for hair that needs smoothing and a shine to it.

All you need is:

-1 avocado

-1/2 cup coconut milk

-1/4 cup extra virgin oil

Olive oil has been used for centuries for it’s hydrating properties whether it be in body scrubs or face treatments, it’s known to be able to deliver immense hydration. Coconut milk is not as heavy as coconut oil which is why this mask uses the milk. Two heavy oils would weigh down your hair instead of giving it that healthy bounce like you just left the salon. Mix everything together and make sure there are no lumps of avocado left in the mask. Apply on freshly shampooed and conditioned damp hair, and wrap a towel around your head. Leave it on for one hour, or keep it on overnight if you feel your hair needs that extra hydration. Don’t forget to rinse it out though!

4. Yogurt and Honey Hair Mask

This DIY hair mask comes along so easily with just two ingredients. If you’re going out and you need a quick pick-me up for your hair, this mask is exactly it! This mask will transform frizzy brittle hair into the hair you see on the Pantene commercials and just wonder how.

All you need is:

-2 tablespoons of yogurt

-1 tablespoon of honey

Yogurt is full of protein which aids hair in growing longer and stronger. The fats in the yogurt help coat the hair too, making it a great conditioner for added shine. Whereas the honey retains the moisture in your hair, and makes sure you get the most you can get out of the yogurt in the mask. Your scalp benefits tremendously from the nutrients in the honey, it soaks it all up and encourages healthy hair to grow. Mix these ingredients up and massage them into your scalp. Leave it on for around 10-20 minutes and then rinse it out as normal

5. Strawberry Hair Mask

I absolutely love strawberries, and the fact that they’re so versatile that they can be used in a hair mask too is amazing! Compared to the rest of the DIY hair masks, this mask is so lightweight and fresh,

All you need is:

-8 strawberries

-2 tablespoons of mayo

Strawberries are packed with Vitamin C which in helps damaged hair from getting too thin or easily falling out. The mayo is filled with essential oils that are not heavy so this mask will not weigh down your hair if you have thin hair and you’re worried. Just mush everything up together until it looks evenly blended, and apply all over to your scalp. Leave it on for around 30-35 minutes and then rinse it out.

6. Overnight Aloe Vera Hair Mask

You can never go wrong with Aloe Vera! Whether you use it after a day out in the sun, or you apply it on your face, the beneficial properties of Aloe Vera are never endless. Which makes sense as to why it’s especially beneficial in DIY hair masks. This deep conditioning  overnight mask mixes up aloe vera with ground cinnamon for a deeply penetrating mask.

All you need is:

-2 tablespoons of pure Aloe Vera gel

-1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon powder

Aloe Vera when it comes to hair reduces dandruff and relieves any scalp itching if one has very dry hair. It also improves blood circulation in the scalp and strengthens the follicles in the hair so it doesn’t fall out as easy. The cinnamon in this case speeds up cell division which in turn promotes hair growth. Mix these ingredients together and massage it into your scalp in circular motions. After, tie a bun to the top of your head, wrap a towel around it, and sleep with it over night. Wash it off the next day with cold water.

7. Banana and Olive Oil Hair Mask

If you have bananas hanging around your house and they’re beginning to get brown, that means its time for DIY hair masks. This hair mask combines an overripe banana with olive oil to nourish dry damaged hair

All you need is:

See Also

-1 overripe banana

-1 tablespoon of olive oil

Bananas are rich in potassium which strengthens weak hair, and balances out the pH of the scalp so any extra oiliness doesn’t continue to build up. If one has dry hair, this mask also balances out the dryness by trying to promote healthy oils to the scalp. Mix the ingredients together, and massage them into your scalp. Leave it on for 20 minutes, and then rinse it out

8. Coconut Oil Hair Mask

Out of all the DIY hair masks, this one not only is the quickest but the simplest. Containing only one ingredient, there isn’t a lot of chemical reactions going on here. Being a plant oil, it contains natural healthy oils that promote healthy looking hair

All you need is:

-3 tablespoons of coconut oil

Coconut oil penetrates deep into the scalp, really stimulating the hair follicles and preventing breakage and split ends. Because of it’s thickness, it coats the hair and adds a soft shine to the hair without looking greasy. Massage this into dry hair, and you can either leave it on overnight or wash it out after 35 minutes.

9. Brown Sugar & Olive Oil Hair Mask

This can be considered a hair mask, or a hair scrub because of it’s exfoliant properties. Compared to the rest of the DIY hair masks, this needs to be continuously massaged into the scalp.

All you need is:

-2 tablespoons of brown sugar

-1 tablespoon of olive oil

Brown sugar is a natural exfoliant that easily breaks up any dead skin cells on the surface of the scalp and promotes new cells to grow. This in turn leads to hair growth. Whereas the olive oil is used in this case as a natural conditioner to prevent the brown sugar from stripping the hair of its natural oils.

10. Yogurt, Apple Cider Vinegar, and Lemon

This hair mask is essentially for hair that has a lot of product build up over the course of the week. If you’re like me and you’re spraying everything from hairspray to dry shampoo, your scalp needs a deep cleanse.

All you need is:

-1/2 cup of plain yogurt

-1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar (dilute with 2 tablespoons of water)

-1 tablespoon of lemon

These ingredients combined create a deep cleaning effect known to climate excess oils. The lemon in this case acts as an astringent cleansing the scalp as well. The yogurt acts as a conditioner locking in moisture throughout your hair. Mix these ingredients together and apply it all over your scalp. Leave it on for twenty minutes and then rinse it off.
