These yarn lights are such a cute Fourth of July idea that look great outside during barbecues and fireworks.
Supplies:
Directions:
Inflate the balloons to about 4 in. in diameter and tie a knot securely at the opening. Purchase 5 in. balloons at a party store. Rub petroleum jelly on the surface of the inflated balloons. Mix two parts glue to one part water in a shallow pan. Keep stirring the glue until smooth and even. Wrap the yarn around your fingers several times, being careful not to get it tangled. Soak the yarn in the glue, using fingers to penetrate all the fibers with the glue. Keep the yarn in a loop so as not to tangle.
Tie one end of the yarn loosely around the knot at the top of the balloon, then start winding the yarn around the balloon. Have the yarn criss-cross in different directions. When you reach the end of the yarn loop, tuck the end under another piece of yarn. Rub the entire surface with more glue to completely saturate. You can also layer several colors of yarn on the same balloon, using less of each color so the amount of yarn used is the same as for single color globes.
Tie a string between two chair backs to create a drying line for globes and place plenty of newspapers underneath for drips. Clip the ends of the balloons to the string with clothespins and allow to dry for 48 hrs. After 48 hrs., the balloons will have deflated a bit. Pop them and remove them from the yarn globes. Find an opening in the globes large enough to insert the bulbs of your string lights and secure the globes with a piece of wire so they don’t fall off. Alternate the colors of the yarn globes as desired.
This garland is one of the easiest decor ideas that can also be adapted to any other holidays and occasions!
Supplies:
Directions:
Cut your paper stars from different colors of cardstock as desired, such as bright red, blue, as well as silver glitter and gold glitter to give a little glam to the project. To create the garland, grab two stars of the same size in different colors, stack them together, then sew a straight line down the middle using a sewing machine. Using the Fourth of July-colored thread adds more color to the theme!
Continue doing this until all the stars are used. Arranging the star stacks beforehand can help you make the variations you desire for the outcome. Finish by folding each star outwards to create a 3D paper star garland.
This rag wreath can look cute and rustic or endlessly adapted to other styles and is a great way to reuse old rags and jeans for an Americana look.
Supplies:
Directions:
Cut the fabrics into strips about 1 in. wide. Unravel the wire coat hanger as needed and bend to a circle hoop shape, twisting the ends together to re-secure. Put each strip of fabric around the wire and tie a knot in the middle to secure it to the wire hoop. Continue tying fabric to the hoop in combinations and variety of choice.
For the fluffiest, fullest wreath, continually push the pieces together after tying for maximum pieces to the finished piece. The finished piece will look great on your door. For added design shown, flip the wreath over and show off the wreath knotted side out!
Different colors and patterns together make this paper Fourth of July decor centerpiece idea really pop!
Supplies:
Directions:
To make each rocket, roll a piece of festive scrapbooking paper of desired size into a tube-shape and secure the ends together with glue. For the nose cone of the rocket, cut out a paper circle, (proportionate to the rocket size), in the paper of your choosing. Creativity and lots of patterns are encouraged for really unique decor! Cut a slit in the paper circle from edge to center.
Overlap the ends of the paper circle and secure the ends with glue. Glue a ribbon strip of paper inside the rocket, partially hanging out of the bottom of the rocket to resemble a rocket fuse. Glue a long dowel rod inside the tube to support the rocket. Carefully plunge the rocket dowel rod into the sand of the bucket and display.
This DIY is another great chance to get creative with Fourth of July decor and sand colors for beautiful variety.
Supplies:
Directions:
Fill your clear drinking glass with enough sand that a votive candle placed on top of the sand falls just below the rim. Set the glass inside a clear vase or jar. With your funnel, fill the gap between the two containers with layers of festive colored sand. Fill enough to reach the rim of the drinking glass, alternating colors for designs of choice. Continue this project for however many sand candles you desire.
So many different possibilities for these festive flowers and they look so cute displayed anywhere this season.
Supplies:
Directions:
Start by tracing out three different sized circles on your sheets of paper. It’s recommended you use four different sizes for each flower. Used in the DIY are sizes 1-⅛”, 1-¾”, 2-¼”, and 3-½”. After tracing, cut each out. It is recommended you double or triple your paper to save time later. Pair up your sizes/designs/patterns/etc. into what you desire your flowers to look like. On each circle, make 5 or 6 cuts, stopping approximately ½” from the center of each circle. Punch a hole into the center of each circle. Fold each triangle section of the circles in half lengthwise.
After each triangle section is folded, stack them largest at the bottom to smallest at the top. Insert your paper brad to keep the pieces of each flower together. Use pencils, skewers, thin wooden dowels or others for the stems. Floral wire also works really well for the ultimate manipulation of the flowers. Cut each stem to desired length. Place it against the back of your paper flower and apply a small piece of washi tape to hold it in place or glue it in place as desired. Washi tape can be more easily removed so you can store and reuse your flowers more easily next year!
