10 DIY Dorm Decor Projects Anyone Can Do

DIY decor is a great way to add a unique touch to your dorm room. You don’t have to break the bank on expensive decor either. Most of these crafts can be made with tools from the dollar store. Plus, they’re all relatively simple. There’s no sewing, knitting, or painting required. If you can hot glue then you can tackle any of these crafts. Embrace your inner sorority girl, here are 10 DIY dorm decor projects anyone can do!

1. Upgrade your Plastic Drawers

Dorms are usually short on storage so chances are you’ll be utilizing plastic drawers. Give them an upgrade by spray painting them before moving in. You could also freehand some designs if you’re feeling extra crafty.

2. Wine Cork Board

Start collecting wine corks to make your own DIY cork board. Buy a shadow box picture frame and hot glue them in. Paint them different colors or keep the natural cork. You can buy bundles of wine corks on eBay if you’re not that into vino.

3. Floral Letters

This is a super easy way to personalize your dorm. Head to the craft store or dollar store for fake flowers and decor letters. Decorate your initials, sorority letters and more. This DIY dorm decor is ridiculously easy as long as you can hot glue.

4. Upgrade your Trash Can

This DIY dorm decor only requires a trip to the dollar store. Glue some rope around your plastic trashcan to give your room a rustic touch.

A flower wall is a unique wall to add some greenery to your dorm – since it’s probably hard to keep real flowers alive in your room. Hot glue fake flowers onto clear fishing line and you’re done. This DIY project has been all over Pinterest so there’s already a ton of tutorials.

6. DIY Clear Jars

The next time you finish a candle don’t forget to keep the jar. Put the empty candle in the freezer until the leftover wax is completely frozen. Afterward, you should be able to easily break the wax out and clear the jar. Now you have a place to store your makeup brushes, pens, etc.

7. DIY Coasters

I’m sure you’ve seen one or two mason jar crafts already, but this one is relatively unique! You can make some DIY coasters out of your unused mason jar lids. Spray paint the lids and line the inside with cork. Choose whatever color or design that fits your style.
