DIY Canvas Art
One of my favorite things to do is craft. While I’ve been on summer break from school, I’ve had some extra time for a couple DIY projects. My latest creation was a DIY canvas that I painted for one of my best friends. It took me a bit to figure out what I wanted to paint, but once I had the idea in my head I was excited to see how it would come out! Check out how I prepped and painted my canvas with these steps below.
Supplies needs:
- Canvas
- Navy, gold, pink, and green paints
- Tape
- Paint brushes
Step One:
Once I gathered everything I needed together, I started to create stripes on my canvas. I placed my tape horizontally across my canvas so that I would have clean lines on my finished product. Placing down tape divides the canvas into different sections and will create stripes—the exposed canvas will be painted navy and the canvas covered by tape will create the white lines. Using the navy color, paint your canvas. Don’t be afraid to get messy, the tape will protect the areas you want to stay white.
Step Two:
Let the canvas completely dry. I waited about two hours before to make sure that the paint was no longer wet and pulled off my tape. Once that was done, I started to paint my quote onto the canvas. I found a quote that particularly stuck out to me, “you are capable of amazing things.” I decided to use this quote because it reminded me of my friend so much! To make the gold really pop, I had to paint over the letters a few times.
Step Three:
I’d planned on being done with the project once I finished the quote. However, once I got to that point, I felt like the canvas still needed something else. At that point, I decided to paint a flower in the top left corner. I grabbed a few extra bottles of paint in a bright shade of green and three different shades of pink. To create my flower, I used the different shades of pink to make little “C” shapes over and over again. I started with longer Cs on the outside, and as I made my way in, they got shorter. When I was done with the flower, I used my green paint to make two little leaves. Painting the flower was actually really easy and turned out to be a nice addition to my canvas!
Once I’d finished up painting my flower my DIY canvas was done! I’m very happy with the way it’s turned out and I can’t wait to give it to my friend! I hope these instructions will help you to create a DIY masterpiece of your own!
