Too often, we save and bookmark cool DIY art projects that we promise ourselves we’ll do one day, but we never actually get around to it! We’re too busy, tired, or stressed. But don’t you think you’d feel better if you spruced up your space with a little something you made yourself? Luckily for you, this is a collection of DIY art project ideas that will make your bedroom more, well, you!
Do you have lots of pictures laying around? Or better yet, are your walls bare of decoration? Go to the store and buy some washi tape in your favorite pattern. Mix and match! Then, you can use the washi tape to frame your pictures. Instead of buying expensive frames, getting a hammer and nail out, and damaging your wall, you can use gentle washi tape around your pictures for a pop. If you don’t have pictures, you can carefully write out quotes or do some quick doodles and frame those instead.
Do you want something a little quicker that will completely change the vibe of your bedroom? You can easily order peel and stick wallpaper that’s removable and won’t damage your walls. You can cover one wall and make it an accent, or you can break out that X-Acto knife and cut out cool shapes that you can arrange above your bed to look like a headboard or pattern over your walls. There are so many designs out there, it would be impossible to not find the perfect one for you.
If you have a bunch of old shirts, tapestries you don’t want to use anymore, or worn sheets, then you need to cut them up! Instead of throwing way that cloth, you can cut squares and sew them together for a patterned cloth you can throw over your end table, your desk, or your dresser. Not only is this a unique way to add decoration to you room, but you can recycle. Plus, you don’t have to be a sewing pro! Just one needle and some thread, and you can do some simple stitches to tie it all together.
If you have a light fixture that looks dated or boring, you can easily fix it by making a new one! By simply buying some balloons, some string, and glue, you can make a new cover for the ceiling light fixture, or even a new lampshade. Simply blow up the balloon, then cover the string in glue before wrapping it around the balloon. After it’s dry, you pop the balloon and a new lampshade is born!
Is your nightstand kind of old? Maybe you bought a simple put-together nightstand, and those corners are looking pretty collapsible. Instead of buying another basic table, make one for cheaper! Go out and buy two small wooden crates, some wood glue, and paint or wood stain. All you have to do is decorate those crates or stain them, then glue them together. You’ll have a cute new table with your very own custom design, or a rustic table perfect for poetry books.
Living in the city can be difficult with all the noise and concrete. If you live in an urban area and you’re craving a touch of nature, you can create a flower canopy to hang from your ceiling. You just need to go to the craft store and pick out your favorite faux flowers, buy some hot glue or strings, and find a plain frame for a wreath or another plain circular frame. You can tie or hot glue the flowers so that they drape and fall from the frame, creating a gorgeous canopy for you to wistfully gaze at all day.
Did you ever try cross-stitching and give up because of the time and effort it takes? If yes, then you probably have an embroidery hoop hanging around. If you’re not using that hoop for stitching, then use it for wall art! Arrange the hoops on your wall and decorate them with flowers, gemstones, pompoms, or any other lovely thing you can glue to them. You can leave them as is, or you can tape pictures in the hoops, too!
If you have a bunch of leftover Christmas lighting, use to make your room cozy! Don’t just use plain lights that. Get out your scissors and cut flowers you can fold around the light. This will add some color to the lighting, and it will look like a vine is growing in your room. How could you resist this kind of beauty?
If you really love rainbows or color palettes, you can recreate them for a very low price in your room! Go to your local paint store and collect some free paint cards. Cut out shapes, use a hole punch to make hearts or other symbols, and make your own colorful paint sample card mosaic. You can create a mural across your wall or stick your paint chip shapes onto canvas. You can take it a step further and use Mod Podge to cover your bed frame or nightstand with your fun shapes.
The best part about your room is curling up in bed on a rainy day or sleeping in. If you want to bring coffee and breakfast into the picture, it’s kind of hard to eat in bed without a tray. Instead of a boring tray for your treats, express yourself through the tray! You can use washi tape, paint, or stickers. If you’re really artistic, you can use stencils to make beautiful designs. Even when you’re not using this tray for practical reasons, it will be a lovely addition to your nightstand.
