These 10 Disney Halloween Movies Will Bring You Back To Your Childhood
No matter how old you are, no one’s too old for a Disney Halloween movie. Whether you remember them or not these movies were staples in many children’s lives…and even some adults.
Here are 1o Disney Halloween movies that will bring you back to your childhood.
1. Hocus Pocus
In my opinion, “Hocus Pocus” is one of the best Disney Halloween movies ever made. It ceases to age and always makes a return appearance each year. This movie encompasses a wide audience offering its fair share of PG moments as well as comedic relief.
One of the most iconic scenes is what can only be referenced as the “I Put A Spell On You” scene. The talented Bette Midler singing “I Put a Spell on You” while her witchy sisters sing and dance backup. This serves as a way for these witches to cast a spell over the adults to keep them occupied so they can carry out their spell.
Ultimately, to make it so they can stay on Earth forever.
This movie is definitely a must this Halloween!
2. Twitches
This popular Disney Halloween movie, starring Tia and Tamara Mowry, is mainly geared towards a younger audience. This movie deals with twin witches who have been separated at birth reuniting and fighting forces of evil with their magical powers.
All while bonding and getting to know the sister they didn’t think they had.
So I don’t spoil the ending for those who haven’t seen it, one of the best scenes in this Disney Halloween movie is when the sisters come together and fight a dark force.
3. The Nightmare Before Christmas
This Tim Burton original movie is considered by many a cult classic.
“The Nightmare Before Christmas” follows Jack Skellington as he makes an important and life-changing discovery…Christmas.
Jack is seen as the King of Halloween yet he is very intrigued by a holiday vastly different from his own. The residents of Jack’s town are hesitant about this new holiday but soon adopt it in their own style.
Imagine how that went…
The most memorable moment in this movie is definitely the scene where the whole town sings, “This is Halloween.”
4. Mom’s Got A Date With A Vampire
Who doesn’t love vampires?
These kids when one is dating their mom.
This Disney Halloween movie follows the story of the Henderson kids. For them to have fun and get out, they need their mom to also have fun and get out of the house. So what better to do than set your mom up with a handsome and suave gentleman.
Everything’s going to plan until they realize the man they set their mom up with is a vampire. Now they need to get her away from him so he doesn’t turn her into a vampire too.
One of the more memorable scenes in this Disney Halloween movie is when Caroline Rhea, who plays the mom, gets up on stage and sings “Maybe” to the night club that she’s having her date at.
5. Halloweentown
One of the more popular Disney Halloween movies, “Halloweentown” had many sequels and was definitely in my top 5 Disney Halloween movies.
It follows the story of Marnie who finds out that in fact, she isn’t your average girl, but that she actually comes from a whole line of witches. It gets even more surprising when she learns her family is in a battle with the dark forces that threaten those in Halloweentown.
One of my personal favorite scenes in this movie is the scene at the broom shop. From discovering a new “right of passage for a girl her age,” to the Elvis impersonating salesman it’s a comedic addition to this movie.
6. Phantom of the Megaplex
This movie is one I only watched once as a child, mainly because it made me irrationally scared to go to bed at night.
Re-watching it, I realized it’s not as scary as my child-brain let me believe and actually isn’t that bad of a movie.
There’s a phantom haunting a megaplex, as the name suggests. On the night of the premiere of a major motion picture, a movie the manager of the megaplex is already freaking out over, mysterious things keep happening like staff disappearing and things mysteriously breaking.
A funny scene in this movie is the bubble gum scene. All Bryan wants is some bubble gum but when the lid to the machine comes loose and breaks off, he starts to panic. An older boy comes to “help” but only makes it worse by making all the bubble gum in the machine roll out onto the floor. Patrons fall, but way too dramatically.
Bryan even blames it on the phantom of the megaplex so he doesn’t get in trouble.
7. The Haunted Mansion
This amazingly funny movie, starring Eddie Murphy, is a Disney Halloween movie anyone can enjoy.
In this movie, Jim (Murphy) is what can only be called a workaholic. When he is told he needs to spend more time with his family, they all go on a trip to a supposedly “haunted” mansion that he needs to sell. Now with what’s supposed to be a nice family getaway becomes a race to break a curse.
A funny scene in this movie is when Jim and his kids are trying to find the mausoleum and end up running into singing busts. Jim can’t even get a whole sentence in without the busts interrupting him and starting a song with the word they’ve interrupted Jim on.
8. Underwraps
This older movie came out in 1997.
This follows a group of kids who accidentally awaken a mummy. Now they are stuck with a very old mummy and need to return him to his resting place. But, they only have until midnight on Halloween. If they can’t make it in time, the mummy will never be reunited with his long lost love.
Gilbert is one of my favorite characters in this movie because he is so scared of “scary” things. He even clenches onto his friend, Marshall’s, leg during a movie they are watching in the theater.
9. Halloweentown 2: Kalabar’s Revenge
I know I covered the first Halloweentown, but these movies are just so good and a big part of my own childhood…and hopefully some of yours too.
Marnie has to help save Halloweentown when a warlock steals a spell and plans to use it on the residents of Halloweentown on Halloween. The spell would turn anyone into whatever costume they were wearing when the spell is cast.
One of the most memorable parts of this movie is when Marnie and her grandmother go back to Halloweentown only to find the town is in a dreary black-and-white environment.
10. Casper Meets Wendy
Okay, so not produced by Disney studios, this is a Disney Halloween movie because it did air on Disney channel.
This movie follows Wendy the good witch as she and her aunts seek asylum from a warlock. There she meets Casper and the two become fast friends and eventually team up to take down the ruthless warlock.
The scene where Wendy and Casper meet is perfectly Disney. Each discards their predisposed notions of what the other should be and forge a great friendship.
