2020 has been a difficult year and that’s an understatement. Not only has it been stressful but it has been filled with a lot of major losses and terrible life changes. More than anything we are all hoping for a brighter 2021. We all deserve to make 2021 as positive a year as we can. Now is a better time than any to create some New Years resolutions that will last, will make a positive impact, and are easy to achieve.
This is a really simple New Years resolution and you can just add this to your everyday routine. For that small moment in the morning when you wake up and you lay in bed for a moment of peace, instead of reaching over for your phone why not start off with some positive affirmations. Start your day right by saying simple things like “Today is going to be a good day.” or “I am going to do my best today.” This way you’re starting your day off with a positive attitude and set the day up to be a good one.
I’m sure this is a resolution that we’ve all tried to hold up to before. Eating healthier doesn’t necessarily mean changing your whole diet to only eating veggies. Eating healthier is all about the choices you make when it comes to your meals for the day. Sometimes eating healthier just means portion control. You can eat whatever you want but in moderation or smaller amounts. You could replace your snacks with some healthier alternatives, this way you get the meals you want but when you’re craving something to munch on it won’t be too bad for your body.
Now this New Years resolution is easier said than done. Some people just don’t have the time or motivation to do full-on exercises every single day and that is totally okay! There are a lot of workouts you can do that only require 15 to 20 minutes of your day. This could also be as easy as just doing some stretches in the morning. Anything to get your body’s blood circulation flowing.
When you are going through your day and making choices always go for what is going to bring you happiness or benefit you. Stop trying to please everyone because the only person you should be making a lot of effort to please is yourself. You’ll live a happier and stress-free life if you always work on trying to make yourself happy. This is not to say, stop caring about other people, it’s more like look out for yourself before others sometimes because you deserve it.
This New Years resolution is more specific to if you are still in school. Invest in a calendar and make yourself a study schedule. Designate times that are best for you to only focus on school and studying. If you have a hard time focusing on your work or finding time to study then this is going to help you a lot. This is going to help you in the long run because once it starts to become a part of your routine then you will get used to doing it more often.
Following in the theme of the study schedule, work on keeping to a calendar. When you start keeping a calendar it’ll make your life so much easier. It can be a digital calendar or a paper calendar but no matter what you choose it’s always a good idea to have a calendar on hand. If you’re like me you might be forgetful but keeping a calendar consistently has changed my life because now I’m more organized with what work and schedule.
Try and learn some new things this new year! If it’s picking up a new hobby or taking a class on something you’ve always been interested in learning try something new. It’s always good to constantly be learning because no matter your age you are still developing and your brain still craves knowledge. It’s a great mental stimulus when you continue to learn even if it’s something small like picking up a new craft.
You have to take time for yourself. At the very least once a week take some time to just have a breather. During a stressful workday go to the bathroom and do some breathing exercises. If you have a whole day off why not take a nice soak in the tub, do some yoga, or treat yourself to your favorite comfort food. It’s always healthy to keep your mental health up and taking time for relaxation is a great way to do that.
Buy that purse you’ve been wanting for years, get your favorite meal and don’t think about the calories, or go on that shopping spree. You deserve a spoil once or twice! Sometimes you need to make those impractical purchases to feel good. If you’re the kind of person that loves to give gifts then why not give some gifts to yourself! You deserve to be pampered and spoiled because you work hard and need that moment of bliss.
At least once a day look in the mirror and give yourself a compliment even if it’s the smallest thing. Slowly as you continue to do this you’ll start to find more things about yourself you love and your compliments will start growing. You deserve self-love and it’s just a great way to boost your confidence. You are going to feel more confident and ready for the world when you start to truly believe the compliments you’re giving yourself. The compliments can be really simple like “Your hair looks great today.” or “You have such a cute outfit today.”
