Making your own face mask at home can be fun and extremely rewarding. It’s not even like you have to be on a budget to participate, they’re easy enough that you can make them with ingredients you most likely already have sitting in your room. The other great thing about DIY face masks is the fact that you know what ingredients are being put on your body and more importantly your face. If you have sensitive or dry skin, then you probably know which masks would work best for you and what might not.
Down below you’ll find a list full of great detoxifying DIY face masks to try out for yourself. They will definitely all rid you of any dirt and buildup that are trapped in your pores. It’s time to say hello to clear, healthy looking skin!
Name a better duo, I’ll wait. Oatmeal reaps a ton of benefits for both the face and body, but how exactly? Well, for one, oatmeal can absorb excess oil on your skin. Without all of that excess oil, less breakouts may occur. Oatmeal also contains rich antioxidant properties that can help treat dry skin and aid in cleansing it naturally. Cinnamon pretty much does the same! It adds moisture to the skin, soothes it, reduces wrinkles (never too early to start preventing them), and helps unclog your pores. The ingredient list is simple, find it here.
A lot of homemade face masks that you find on the internet will have coffee in them. Like this one. Not only does it have calming effects on the skin, it can help to reduce inflammation, dark circles, and because it contains a lot of rich antioxidants, helps preserve skin cells. You might be skeptical about the chocolate part of the mask but rest assured, chocolate also has a lot of helpful properties. Chocolate, or in this case cocoa powder, can protect your skin from sun damage, thanks to the flavonols that are present in it. It can also help kill off acne-causing bacteria without doing any harm, like drying out your skin. The potential skincare benefits of both will have you feeling like you just stepped out of the spa and spent over $150 dollars for a facial. The ingredient list is instant coffee, cacao powder, honey, and plain yogurt. After you combine all of the ingredients together, evenly spread the mixture onto your face (after opening your pores with warm/hot water). You can even apply it to your lips to act as a lip exfoliator, what a bonus! For the exact ingredient measurements, click here.
This mask is without a doubt one of the more hydrating ones and we all know that hydration is key, especially during the summer and winter months. When the weather changes and it starts to get more chilly, my skin has a habit of drying and flaking up rather easily. So, what I do to keep it moisturized and hydrated 24/7 is pretty important and vital to taking care of my skin overall. And the same goes for you. Like me, you might have to do more than just use an excess amount of your favorite moisturizer during the colder months. This is where face masks come in handy.
One of my favorite ways to hydrate my skin every now and then is to make a homemade face mask with virgin coconut oil in it. For this detoxifying mask in particular, you combine raw honey, virgin coconut oil, and bentonite clay. There’s a good chance you already have the first two ingredients in your kitchen, and luckily bentonite clay can be bought in generous sizes on Amazon so you won’t have to spend much at all. If you’re looking to moisturize your skin, then use avocado. Avocado is great to digest but the external uses it has for the face and body are just as great. Avocado can heal acne and reduce inflammation, hydrate your skin, and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. And we all know honey is a great ingredient for face masks too. Especially raw honey.
Honey is great for preventing future breakouts and evening out your complexion, which goes hand-in-hand with helping treat acne scars or at least brighten them. Using both avocado and honey on your skin will never be a bad idea! And all you have to do to make this face mask specifically is take one half of an avocado, some honey, and mix both together. Done and done.
Yup, another clay mask. Detoxifying your skin and cleaning out your pores is important and well, clay is great at doing that! When you use clay on your face, you help to shrink and clean out your pores, rejuvenate your skin, and exfoliate all at once. Clay is also great at getting rid of blackheads, which, if you have them, then you know can be extremely stubborn and hard to fight. This clay mask uses Moroccan red clay, which works best when paired with oily, acne-prone skin. My skin is only slightly oily, but I still make sure to use clay masks every now and then to control the shine in whatever areas on my face need it the most. Another great thing about clay is that it does the complete opposite of irritating your skin or turning it bright red. It will leave your skin feeling supple, smooth, and clean.
You take 2 tablespoons of the Moroccan red clay, 3 tablespoons of rose water, 1 teaspoon of mashed avocado, and bam. Use the paste you created to lather your skin up in one of the most hardworking masks you will ever have the pleasure of using and making on your own.
