10 Destinations For Your Next Long Weekend

Who doesn’t love a good long weekend? They’re something to look forward to all week, and when they’re finally here, the possibilities for how to spend them are endless. Here are some ideas on where to spend your next 3-day getaway.

Washington, D.C.

This American classic is great for those who want to get more in-touch with politics, while also take in beautiful sights. A great starter while in D.C. is to visit the Capitol Building. Filled with exhibits and pieces of art, while walking around, you might even see some people from congress! The White House is another great spot for a feel of politics, with beautiful gardens surrounding it. You can sign up for a tour, and learn more about what goes on inside, and the history that has taken place inside that building. The Lincoln Memorial is another can’t-miss stop while you’re in the nation’s capitol. Read through the stories of history as you walk around and overlook the Reflecting Pool.

Stowe, Vermont

Head up to the mountains for a peaceful weekend and fresh air. Stowe offers lots of outdoor activities, from hiking to mountain biking to chairlift rides. Smugglers’ Notch is a popular resort that has lots of options for all-inclusive packages, varying based on the season. Take your family up for a weekend of skiing, or for a chairlift to take in the fall foliage. Moss Glen Fall Trail is another spot with hiking terrain and instagram-worthy views. Breathe in the fresh air as you take in all the wildlife there has to offer. End your day at Smugglers’ Notch Distillery, where you can sample some of Vermont’s finest spirits, or pick up a bottle to take home with you. 

Cleveland, Ohio

Known for its Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, even those not into rock and roll will find something here to enjoy. Featuring artists of all genres, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame both entertains and educates guests with pieces of memorabilia of all types, and impresses all music lovers. For a quieter scene, the Cleveland Museum of Art offers varying galleries and even includes opportunities for guests to create their own art work. Speaking of quiet, the Cleveland Botanical Garden has exhibits and attractions of beautiful wildlife and forestry. The Cleveland Metroparks Zoo attracts animal-lovers of all types, with a cute face for everyone. Don’t forget to grab a stuffed version of your favorite animal on the way out! 

Boston, Massachusetts

If you arrive in Boston and you’re hungry, Quincy Market has got to be your first stop. The Faneuil Hall Marketplace has got a dish for everyone. Walking through the building, you’ll see foods of all different types, surely with something for any palette. Once your appetite is satisfied, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts has collections from all different continents, and provide tourists with a taste of many different artists. For sports fans, Fenway Park offers stadium tours, where guests can get up close with the dugouts, the field and to parts of the stadium they never have before. Make sure you snap a selfie with the Green Monster! Boston also offers a city brew tour. Allowing for visitors to drink while the tour guides drive, this tour offers packages that can include up to 12 different samples, from places including well-known Samuel Adams. 

Atlantic City, New Jersey

What’s a trip to Atlantic City without walking along the boardwalk? Throw on your favorite bathing suit and talk a walk down this popular boardwalk. With food and other vendors along the sides, the Atlantic City boardwalk offers both beach and shopping, and some night even fireworks! Atlantic City’s Hard Rock Casino and Hotel allows for visitors to stay in the hotel and easily visit the casinos and restaurants located inside. This popular destination offers high levels of entertainment and even sports betting opportunities. For those who love to shop, Tanger Outlets offers retail shopping at outlet pricing. With so many deals and so many stores, it’s easy to get caught up and spend a whole day here. 

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

For those who are history-buffs, Myrtle Beach offers a Medieval Times Dinner and Tournament. As guests watch and dine, a live re-enactment of a medieval times tournament will occur as knights fight as they did in 11th century Spain. To spend some more time outside, take a tour of the city on a Segway! This up-right two-wheeled vehicle offers a swift ride around, allowing tourists to take in the sights. Ripley’s Aquarium has a penguin parade, and other exhibits including stingrays and exotic fish. There’s even an online Penguin Cam for when you get h0me and miss them!

Ogunquit, Maine

This picture-perfect town offers beautiful walks along the sea-line. Stroll along the Marginal Way, and help support the preservation fund with a donation or purchase of a Community Bag. Perkins Cove is another outdoor attraction, perfect for a sunset walk or boat ride. End your night at The Front Porch, a restaurant known for their live piano bar, while sipping a spirit of your choice.

San Franciso, California

The car even tells you about the city as you drive around, and offers many photo opportunities around the city. The San Francisco Zoo is home to over 250 species of animals, and offer animal encounters, allowing visitors to get even closer to the animals. End your long weekend by taking a sunset cruise along the bay.
